Hi I am hoping someone can help I am currently a little anxious. I was diagnosed with an over active Thyroid and Graves disease aged 11 and took quiet a high dose of Carbimazole until I was 17 (which according to a lot of comments seems a very long time to be on this drug) Lucikly enough I have never had a relaps and my Thyroid has mostly been stable and I've only had the occasionnal blood test every few years.
Lately however I have had a few of my symtoms back and not been quiet feeling in sync so I went back to my gp requested another blood test. The doctor explained sometimes Graves can cause other autoimmun conditions to follow so she wanted to do a few extra blood tests while I was there.
I had a call from my doctor a few days later to say my Thyroid results have come back normal but my body is showing inflamation and she wants more blood work to be carried out, When I collected the new blood form I requested my result and have found they indicate my liver is imflammed and other indicators point towards Liver disease.
I am currently waiting the results of the further tests but am worried that the years of taking Carbimazole as a child could have been the cause liver problems. Does anyone know if these could be connected?

Very unlikely. Carbimazole is safe to take for years, decades because any problems usually show up within the first 90 days of taking it. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/286...
Untreated hypothyroidism can cause liver problems which is why liver function is often tested at the same time hypothyroidism is diagnosed.
'Normal' is a broad range. If you post your recent thyroid results and ranges I will tell you whether you are euthyroid (normal) or becoming hypothyroid.
Serum T3 - They didnt complete the blood works as it states TSH is within normal range, FT3 will add no further value - consultant Biochemist (even though requested by gp)
Serum Free trilodothyronine level (XaERq) - not doing (even though requested on form by gp)
I know nothing about Graves, but I'm sure many other members do, (you could search for the relevant posts) but I think to alleviate your anxiety, which will impact on your health in itself, it would be beneficial to order some private tests that would give the knowledgable members more to advise on, and hopefully bring you some peace of mind. You may need an adjustment in thyroid meds, or the inflammation may be caused by something else ~ the NHS are relying on TSH which doesn't tell you much.
I'm sure you will find a solution, once you have more info.
Ask for links to tests and what tests would be the most relevant ~ you will get loads of help on here, so don't worry.
Thanks. I havent been on thyroid meds for the past 20 years and the inflamation is showing on my Liver but I may consider ordering some private tests as well
Kingleanne ~ I really think it would be worth the outlay ~ ask advice in another post about the most cost effective and useful ones for you ~ if there is something out of sync, it's better to know ASAP so that things don't deteriorate, vits/minerals etc. It may be something like gluten (common) or some deficiency you hadn't even considered. You developed thyroid problems at an early age, so I expect all manner of things may have changed, but as I say, I've only had Hashis, not Graves. I think maybe if you did one of the tests popular on here to test all thyroid hormones and vits ~ you would then have more of an idea of what thyroid was actually putting out and take it from there. Don't wait for Drs to test ~ they rarely test anything useful these days, it's not worth the stress of not knowing.
