Hi guys,
I'm on NDT. I've been waiting a while for a blood test as I have a lot going on, not just thyroid.
Will the blood test result be ok? Feel so stupid!
TIA

I think the forum recommendation is 12 hours between so your levels will be a little lower than that, and if that's what you normally do it'll be a bit harder to compare as not like for like. However if you bear that in mind and explain to any practitioner that that's what happened it'll still give you a guide, and in any case with NDT you dose more according to symptoms I'm told so I guess the blood tests aren't so vital?
I'm sure others will be along to comment soon but I wanted to give you some reassurance
Hello KornishPiskie :
You haven't messed up but this blood test will likely look different to others you may have already taken and just explain that it isn't a ' like for like ' as you changed your timings etc.
Either way - on NDT. your TSH will be low suppressed, your T4 likely lower than when on T4 Levothyroxine but your T3 will likely be proportionately higher than when on T4 monotherapy.
It's generally suggested to arrange a fasting blood test at around 12 hours from the last dose as this should show if your thyroid hormones are running too high and over range.
Is this your first blood test taking NDT ?
How are you finding things, any improvements in symptoms of hypothyroidism, though it reads as though you have other things going on, so probably not a clear cut situation ?
I wouldn’t worry about it so much I doubt it will be that huge of a difference… it will be interesting to see the results from this blood test and the one you followed with the recommendation here.
