hello : I have anemia B12 &float deficiency and... - Thyroid UK
hello
welcome to the forum
Are you also diagnosed as hypothyroid or do you suspect that you might be hypo
Low vitamin levels are common as a result of being hypothyroid
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if your hypothyroidism is autoimmune
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum
About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.
Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.
Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies (thyroglobulin)
Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease
20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis
In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and (if on levothyroxine) …last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

the doctor didn't say my diagnosis, but I think I have B12 deficiency anemia, I don't have hypothyroid, but I lost a few kg and I can't gain weight right away, what can I do?
You need
A) testing for coeliac disease
B) get all four vitamins tested and improve to good levels by supplementing
C) test thyroid including thyroid antibodies
D) are you vegetarian or vegan. If so low B12 and low ferritin are linked to diet
If not vegetarian or vegan you need testing for Pernicious Anaemia too
I urge you to visit the Pernicious Anaemia society forum, here: healthunlocked.com/pasoc
Are you taking cyanocobalamin orally or getting injections?
Why are you not treating folate deficiency?
If you are on Facebook join the B12 Deficency/Pernicious Anaemia Support group which should be able to answer all your questions.
thanks
