I was speaking to my sister (a nurse) tonight and showed her comparison photos of my swelling before I go to bed and one hour after I take Carbimazole after a I wake and she was horrified- I won’t show them here as I like a low profile. She asked if I’d had a live function test prior to starting medication and again she wasn’t happy when I said no .
I was subjected to medical negligence whilst expecting my only child 21 years ago and the horror I went through then - I swelled from 8st to 16st due to preeclampsia- made up my mind I’d never have another child and here I am swelling like I did then reliving my nightmares
Firstly, did others get this test prior to starting this poison that’s ruining my life or am I just constantly subjected to medical negligence?
aoparently the Secretary was on holiday hence the reason I haven’t received blood work from two weeks ago but she’ll post them out today … and yes I can’t believe I’m writing that either but it’s the truth

Hi, I was on carbimazole for 10+ years. No one ever bothered on liver tests. Now my liver has been damaged by prescription drugs I firmly believe this was carbimazole. Now hypothyroid and cannot tolerate levothyroxine at all. Makes you wonder if its a liver problem causing thyroid issues.
Personally I’ve had enough of this - I don’t think I’ve ever felt this bad in my life and the neglect from healthcare is horrendous. These people are playing with lives and it’s evil … I can’t live like this anymore.
When I press on my forehead it feels spongey this will disperse by evening and then it starts again an hour after meds the following day. I can feel my face filling up whilst on the dog walk and by the time I’m back I’m swollen and struggling.
I’ve sent a message to GP and consultant and no responses have been received, I think that is appalling considering thee meds I’m on. Going to start booking private tests and monitor myself and medicate myself accordingly before something serious happens to me. These professionals are incompetent at best.
nooneimportant I’m sorry to hear about the problems you’re having with your liver. I did a quick Google and thought these might help. It suggests LFT is not routinely recommended. I would urgently speak to your GP today as it sounds like you probably do need to stop the medication. I’m not sure it’s negligence, it sounds like a known possible side effect (albeit a rare one). Here’s the article I found, the patients liver function was normalised after this change in treatment:
Thank you - it's £39 for LFTs and then another £39 for Thyroid tests isn't it? can't really afford that right now but will keep it to one side as I'll have to monitor myself regardless moving forward.
ooooow @SlowDragon - don't get me started grrrrrr I had bloods taken on 12th Feb but because the secretary was on leave they hadn't been posted out to me but might have posted them yesterday (still paper based here) .... I think/hope it is just an overdose of meds as I note that hypothyroid can make you swell up ... I've just eaten (I am up at 05:00 latest and could normally eat around 07:00) but I appear to be rarely hungry to the point I am having to remind myself to eat, and now I feel a bit sick, although that comes and goes with the meds. I had to take several hours off work yesterday pm because I was falling asleep (then slept for 2 hours) slept well last night and didn't want to get up (not like me) this morning, backache, eyes are heavy I could crawl back into bed, a bit dizzy too, taking a lot longer to get warmed up and temperature drops very fast, I was tired and distracted this morning and I walked out into traffic although I am in a hi-viz so if anyone hits me ... well ya know lol swelling now dispersed in my hands, but still feel it in my face and legs/feet, my hands are also a bit tingly, maybe I'm not taking enough meds, maybe it's too much, but unless they give me those results or someone returns my messages I am bit stuck 😤
I’m sorry you are feeling so unwell. To me it would appear that you are over medicated. You need to have a look at your blood results and get back in touch with your endocrinologist for advice.
I’m thinking the same as, as I go through the day further away from when I take the meds everything start to lift until the cycle the next day … hopefully the results from my last test will arrive soon xx
You could try ringing 111. I had a reaction to diclophenac which caused swelling and renal problems ( also kicked off my thyroid problems). My symptoms were listed on the patient information sheet too. 111 gave great advice and altered ,y GP so they had to do something. I was fast tracked to an endocrinologist.
Thanks 59Blue 🙂 I’m sorry to hear about your experience. I hope you have recovered now? I do already have a consultant he and the gp just aren’t responding to my messages although I will prod again tomorrow. I’m just waiting on my results which haven’t been sent to me yet which might have some answers although if numbers haven’t dropped I think it’s be a reaction to the meds I’m experiencing at that point. The swelling is most significant about one hour after taking meds and subsides down to nearly nothing by bedtime so something isn’t happy in the morning 😕 I just wish theys acknowledge my existence tbf
