I have hypothyroidism…have I got autoimmune pancreatitis?

Thanks in advance to all you good people, who’ve already been so helpful. Since 2012, when diagnosed with Hypothyroidism after years of illness, I was never referred to an Endo. I assume I have Hashimoto’s… From childhood, I’ve had recurrent GI symptoms to alcohol and fatty foods. Last August, I had a pretty dramatic reaction to a rare indulgence in ice cream, and in early November, a 72 hour fever, abdo pain, steathorrhea and pale stools ( sorry to be graphic…). Since then I’ve lost almost 25 lbs and am being investigated for pancreatic cancer. I wonder if anyone on here has been diagnosed with pancreatic inflammation which is linked with autoimmune thyroiditis? It’s a long shot, but orthodox medicine seems to perceive issues like this as either/or…

I see you haven’t had any replies, but I’m happy to chip in to say I don’t think there’s any link between autoimmune thyroiditis and autoimmune pancreatitis—other than, if you have one autoimmune disease, you’re more likely to have more than one autoimmune disease. But it’s not the autoimmune thyroiditis affecting your pancreas—it would be an entirely separate autoimmune condition if that’s what’s going on. With the emphasis on “if”.

Sounds horribly scary what’s happening to you—I do hope they’re able to get to the bottom of it. I take it you’ve already tried going dairy free (given the reaction to the ice cream?)

Are you medicated for your hypothyroidism?

Thanks so much for your reply…one good piece of news was that yesterday I learned that pancreatic cancer had been ruled out. I take Levothyroxine, but needless to say, that has caused its own problems! Re your other post: about twenty years ago I was told by a GP that I had signs of Sjögren’s -fatigue ( but I’d had that for several years…) very itchy skin, mostly on arms, resulting in lesions, and very dry eyes and mouth. But those symptoms disappeared after a few years. The mysteries of autoimmune conditions! Once again, thanks so much.

I’ve just read another post of yours which queried Sjogrens. And there is a link to pancreas issues with that—it could be related potentially?
