Timely precaution at this time of year!

Not sure if this post is allowable, but I hope it is for dog's sakes!

My daughter is a vet, and already this year she has had to do emergency surgery on pets who have eaten the wrong things because of carelessness on the part of their owners.

DO NOT give pets human food over the holiday period-it might seem to you that they are 'missing out'-they are not- keeping to their normal diet is the best thing for them and you.

PLEASE make sure no chocolates, mince pies, Christmas puddings, ANYTHING with chocolate or dried fruit in it is left out- even in packaging-because that will be eaten too- where a dog might get it. Remember their sense of smell is 400 times better than ours!!

Dried fruit is lethal to dogs, the toxins affect the kidneys, and can cause kidney failure very quickly. Prevention is better -and cheaper - than cure! If the worst happens, the dog would have to be on a drip to flush the kidneys though for up to several days-a VERY costly exercise, apart from the anxiety aspect!! And the vet would rather not be called out to an incident like that!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE!
