Hi, This is an information post which I hope might help someone. When I was diagnosed with Graves / hyperthyroidism after an A&E visit I was told that I should feel better in 6-8 weeks when the thyroid with carbimazole evened itself out. I have an inflamed thyroid diagnosed by Ultrasound
Well, it has taken until 6 months to stabilise where my heart rate remains relatively stable and I've started to feel a bit better. Prior to that my heart rate was see-sawing and spiking at night, very bad sleep and dreams, hyperactivity etc
So for those of you newly diagnosed who are despairing that things will not improve, maybe it takes longer for some people than others.
My resting heart rate is averaging 59 on my fitbit but I'm feeling ok so I hope that's not too low.
Blood test results next week
Good luck x

Hi Zoe, Glad you're feeling better. My symptoms weren't so extreme and I did start to feel better within a few months. But I came on this post to say that it took several years for me to come off carbimazole. I was on quite a low dose anyway (due to breastfeeding at the start) and it took a long time to cut down and get my results consistently in range. But I've now been off the carbimazole for a couple of years and despite lots of life stress and perimenopause, the Graves hasn't come back yet. So there's definitely hope
