Long covid
Oh Geegee, you poor thing.
Hydration is so important, but not just water. You need electrolytes .
I used to get a tub of isostar from a cycling shop years ago. I’m not sure what is on the market now though, but it was incredibly effective not just for cycling. The electrolytes can make it taste a bit salty - I preferred the lemon flavour.
Rest is good but pottering a bit is good too. Some people have said echinacea is not good for hypothyroidism but I have have used it for short periods a few days infrequently and had no ill effects.
Take it easy though. Overdoing it could put you back. You have made such progress, please look after yourself. 🤗
I had covid for over 2 weeks testing positive for st least 13 days. I lost my sense of taste and was very up and down for about 2.5 weeks. Think it’s normal for it to last 2/3 weeks as your antibodies calm down and organs start functioning normally again.
Hi Geegee,
I managed to get COVID earlier this year. I was the same as McPammy and tested positive for two weeks. It does completely wear you out and from my own experience you have to allow yourself time to recover; you can't rush this. Sleep when you can and rest whenever possible.
What annoyed me the most I was and still am titrating up my levo dose so getting COVID then really upset me. The endo surgeon said she sees many patients with thyroid hormone levels not recovering after having COVID.
Also I'd been a continuous mask wearer and sanitiser user (but a relative got it on a flight back to UK and came to visit! 🙄) So I was angry too which didn't help.
Your energy levels will take a while to get back to where they were. I found I could only do one thing then would have to recover for the rest of the day and often the following day. My legs felt so heavy.
Are you taking vitamin D3 and co factors? Also vitamin B12? I took vitamin C too and drank more water.
You may need to adjust your levo and T3 doses. The endo surgeon said to wait for a month or two at least before doing any blood tests as they'll probably be skewed.
Be kind and patient with yourself and rest!
Thank you all for your comments. I feel less concerned as it looks as if I just need to be patient. I am increasing my levo to 100mcg a day, just started in November. So i think i will wait till February before I do my private blood test.
Have you looked into black elderberry (juice or gummies) to build immune support? I have to say I have never had COVID but at the first sign of any virus, I head for the black elderberry bottle (I choose Sambucol) and it works every time. I do keep up my D3, B12, Zinc and Selenium plus Vit C every day. Trust you recover quickly - and be kind to yourself, extra kind as you work through the effects of COVID.
Zinc is worth trying to recover more quickly. Best taken when symptoms start but no harm in trying.
See the following video about Vitamin D & covid. The doctors talk about zinc further into the video, so bear with it.
Just reiterating others, it takes a while. I tested positive for 10 days and it took me a while to recover completely from the fatigue, but I did get there.
