Stability of NDT at 5C - stored in the fridge

Hello lovely people

I am an idiot! It’s official.

I’ve been storing my NDT in the fridge instead of at room temperature. Efra (the manufacturer) have said they have no data to confirm if it’s still effective, so said I should stop taking it. That’s £300 worth of NDT, which I just cannot afford to throw away.

Does anyone know what colder temperatures do to NDT please?

Thank you so much

Thank you. Are you aware of what low temperatures do to NDT? the guidance seems to be for exceeding max temperature

My blog is for levothyroxine because there is some information. I'd be even more cautious with desiccated thyroid. But the same basic approach.

Do not let it get too cold.

Be very wary of humidity, condensation, etc.

AHA!

I had updated my blog but the recent updates had not applied. Now updated with information about cold!

I’m an epic idiot. £300 down the drain.

But thank you for the information. At least I now know

It might be OK!

My blog is super-cautious.

We have had two ends of the scale - some have frozen desiccated thyroid and ended up with a foul sticky lump. Others have said all has been OK.

I’ve felt that it hasn’t been working properly, but then that could just be absorption.

I’ve messaged the pharmacy to see what they think. Arghhhh why is this so difficult?

Thank you 😊

Hi PixieElv, My daughter, a vet, says the guidelines around storage temperature are not based on any science but on the temperature the meds are stored at in the lab/during and after manufacture. This means meds might be absolutely fine even if stored by us at much lower or higher temperatures than advised. In your shoes, I would carry on taking the meds and note if you continue to feel the same or if there's any difference.

thank you! It’s so confusing as different meds need different temperatures. I was really disappointed that Efra did not have any data 😞

I have been feeling a lot worse (afternoon napping) and gained a stone in weight (slowly), so I think temperature does affect efficacy. I have a new batch, so will see soonish!
