I've been taking TUDCA bile salts this week and I can confirm in my laboratory testing (Bathroom) that it does indeed make for none skid mark sinkers and a rather pleasing 4 on the Bristol Stool Chart!!

The idea being low stomach acid precludes bile production which limits digestive ability...

Edit... I should add that floating 💩 and skid marks are considered a sign off low bile

Thank you Eeyore and your Bristol 4😄. Are you taking this interestingly named Tudca as a result of your OAT test? Ie. were you low in something?

And it's to help with low stomach acid?

I took Tudca as great for the liver and also improving T4 to T3 conversion in rats. Not sure if there’s been further research.

I had no idea it effected the Bristol Stool Chart. 🤔 I don’t think it did mine.

I suspect Eeyore is taking it for high oxalates?

Edit - I suspect TiggerMe is taking it for high oxalates?

 Sneedle A combination of things, low stomach acid = low bile= poor digestion=low nutritional uptake... liver was also unhappy.

Luckily  radd is here to remind me that I'm taking it for my high oxalates too (I've also added in some calcium to help redress the imbalance) but don't say that out loud as I'll get grief for it 😉

Additionally, some clinicians like to recommend TUDCA, a specific form of bile acids that is derived from taurine, to target oxalates. Calcium. Calcium can block the absorption of oxalates, and people with a low dietary intake of calcium are more likely to be oxalate sensitive.

I believe you can take extra magnesium to bind oxalates instead of calcium that might be possibly safer? 🤷‍♀️

Might unbalance the old Bristol Stool Chart though! 😁

I get less than 200mg of calcium a day as opposed to the recommended 1000mg do you think magnesium is enough to cover the short fall?

Truth is Radd I just don't know what to do for the best when it comes to calcium 😩

It was suggested to me that food provided best calcium source. I don’t eat specifically for calcium but my labs for calcium are good and bone health has improved over the years.

I would only supppement calcium if I knew I was deficient. Why don’t you ask your GP for a bone health blood test. It is a fairly general run test and you could say as you have hypothyroidism your dentist has suggested it! 😜😁.

😆 I'm waiting for a call back in a weeks time to discuss with GP, hoping I can get a scan so I'll know where I'm at, bloods from 8 months ago showed OK levels but I don't really know what that tells you as it leaches out of your bones to keep the circulating level up doesn't it??

Umm, let me think.

I know it is magnesium that will leech from the bones to ensure good blood levels are maintained for a healthy heart. Is the same true of calcium or is it just factors such as high salt intake?

I'm going off for a good read as I can't remember 📕👩‍🏫. ... but agree only a scan can tell the real truth.

I do take good levels of all sorts of Mag along with D3 4000iu, K2 70mcg

Last Mag result 0.84mmol/L 0.7 - 1 Range

Just had my magnesium levels tested and they are 2 on the range you mention (well over range).

Last time it was tested it was 0.7. The only difference is that I stopped taking supplemental calcium. Wish I hadn’t done this really. Calcium is low in range and I understand that calcium is a significant factor in weight control.

Oh, that is interesting... it is all such a balancing act... is your diet lacking calcium too hence supplementing?

Severely osteoporotic hence calcium supps from GP

Refuse to take the other gut rotting rubbish that they give you for Osteoporosis

Yes they monitor Vit D too.

GP gave me Calcium Carbonate which is very constipating. I changed it to self sourced Calcium Citrate which is very well absorbed.

They also put me on Bisphosphonates (Alendronic Acid). Caused severe gastric problems. There is an annual injection called Denosumab which they’ve mentioned. Not committing to that until I’ve finished my research. 😫

It's fair to say they'll treat you but nothing to say it'll be the best stuff available that's for sure!

This is why I am keen to deal with my dietary deficiency hopefully before it becomes the next big issue... I've bought some calcium citrate to fortify my milk substitute thinking little and often is the way🤞

I came across your post as I’m looking at ways to aid my gallbladder function.

Can I ask 3 or so months on, how did you find the supplement?

I’m on T3, I’m not sure if you are but did you find any impacts on your thyroid levels? (I only ask I’ve had some horrible issues with thing’s interfering with T3 uptake in the past I’d rather not repeat!)

Hi, still taking them and still doing a perfect streak free💩 😁 since taking them I have actually reduced my T3 from 15mcg to 10mcg and added an extra 100mcg per week to my usually daily 100mcg of T4 as my fT3 had crept up and my fT4 down... so my system seems to be running a little better or not I'm not sure how to interpret this change?? I'd been on the previous dosing for 6 months

Over all I'm doing well my recovery, readiness and activity scores continue to improve according to my tracking device... head also seems clearer, regained a little more memory

I've just put in a request with the GP to see if I can book in for some blood tests which would be interesting to see if anything else has shifted, hoping they will run full bloods, iron, B12, ferritin, folate, Vit D, zinc, testosterone and liver... to see if it looks less like an obese alcoholics 🤞

If I get any joy with them I'll feed back any findings...

I must admit I’d never heard of it until today. And I’ve seen/eaten many supplements 🤣

But as I read about it, albeit these things tend to be slightly biased, it was ticking so many boxes.

I’ve rarely had gallbladder problems since I was diagnosed, but I’m aware it’s likely to crop up more as I age. And then there was the gut function, the nutrient uptake, the brain fog - ANYTHING that helps that would be life changing 😂

So I figured I’d give it a bash but I was interested in how you’d been getting on.

I’m glad to hear you continue to improve, and yes let us know what the tests show.

I really should go and fry some bloods some myself, but I’ve been a bit lax on the old regular supplements recently, so maybe I’ll wait a couple of months!
