Hi,
I have been taking propanolol 10mg X 3 times a day for my pots. I have now stopped taking it. Would it affect my thyroid hormones? Am taking both levothyroxine and liothyronine.
Hi,

Propranolol is said to reduce FT4:FT3.
As you control the T3 it might not have a significant affect.
I found my FT3 increased disproportionately after I stopped. Although I have hyper (on carbimazole) & was on 40mgx3 propranolol dose.
Shouldn’t be stopped one 1 go, it’s best to reduce slowly. I had migraines and GP put me back on propranolol to prevent them.
Got down to low dose for a long time, but have had it increased recently.
Thank you! What dose did you go from and to what dose? Do you know your levels before and after stopping.
I’d been on 20mg carbimazole & 40mg x3 propranolol for about 2 months my results at first endocrinologist clinic were
TSH <0.01
FT4 38%
FT3 50%
The carbimazole was halved to 10mg and propranolol stopped by specialist
Next test bout 7 weeks later
March 2019
TSH <0.01
FT4 69.23%
FT3 113.64% over range
So FT4 didn’t quite double but FT3 rose more than double.
Was unwell with migraines until GP put me back on propranolol. Slowly reduced it. I think I did about 30mg a week eg 10mg less on 3 of the days.
Got down to 20mg on some days, but I had to take pills on time. Couldn’t take a tablet late or I found I needed extra.
Yes it will
It’s slows uptake and conversion rate of Ft4 to Ft3
It’s extremely important to reduce propranolol very slowly usually over several months
Personally I took 4-6 months to ween slowly off 4 x 10mg
