I think most of us have Hashi's. It's THE most common cause of hypo in the West.

There is no fixed best diet for the condition. Eat what suits you best as an individual. Many people feel better if they completely eliminate gluten, others need to eliminate dairy. Some feel better when they completely avoid sugar. And some need to avoid all three.

The things I would say we should all avoid, Hashi's or not are: artificial sweeteners, highly processed seed oils and unfermented soy.

As for exercise, again, it's a very personel thing, and nothing to do with Hashi's per se. But, in the early days, until you've found the right dose of thyroid hormone replacement for you, be very careful not to over-exercise because that can make things worse. Just gentle walking or swimming - possibly yoga. And, build up slowly according to tolerence. :)

Before I had Hashis I was a keen runner and seemed to have endless energy. The condition sapped me massively and I took advice from this forum to go easy and allow my body time to recover. My thyroid levels and key vitamins are now optimal (although I still check these 3 times a year to make sure and adjust accordingly). Im now able to take part in active sports, although my joints now prefer spinning and Pilates to x country running!

My advice, like greygoose is to go easy on yourself until your symptoms are alleviated. Take part in activities you enjoy and don’t over exert yourself. Try to eat anti inflammatory foods and get enough rest.

Very best wishes to you 🦋
