Finally have treatment for subclinical hypothyroidism

I've been taking Metavive for a few years but not that much. Finally NHS doctor agreed to treat as my TSH was still high whilst taking it, and they appeared to listen this time. It's only 25mcg of thyroxine but I think it's progress.

That’s great what is your TSH? What symptoms are you having. I felt worse on 25 but you may be fine if you take a bit of the metavive aswell. Are you planning to discontinue the metavive?

Thanks ockerdoc. Yes it's a risk I'll feel worse. I will try it for 6 weeks then try and get another test - they said 2 months.

Well done

What were most recent TSH, Ft4 and Ft3

Suggest you slowly stop Metavive as you increase levothyroxine

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after being on constant unchanging dose and brand of levothyroxine

Do you know which brand of levothyroxine you are starting on yet

Only 25mcg tablets are Mercury Pharma, Wockhardt or Teva

Standard starter dose levothyroxine is 50mcg unless over 65

Thanks SlowDragon. I think it's Wockhardt. Have yet to get the results just that he's sent the Levo to my chemist. He said all the rest were "normal".

I will stop the Metavive at least for the first 8 weeks to see what happens.

There is no "normal" in the thyroid world, but doctors don't seem to know that.

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.

The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results

UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.

In reality some GP surgeries still do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Looking at previous posts…..can’t see any previous tests of thyroid antibodies

I did have one which was "normal" in the past. I'll see what they did this time.

Thanks. I will start the Levo tomorrow and try and get results.
