Can anybody advise me how I can change GP practice. I saw a GP 3 months ago and he said I had large blood platelets and would refer me to Haematology. I rang yesterday about blood results which again had lots of abnormal blood results. I asked how long haematology would be only to find that they hadn’t referred me. I think this is gross negligence and this is the idiot dr who is treating my thyroid.

GP Practice
Hi,
Sorry to hear that.
You literally need to contact another surgery nearby and see if they’re accepting new patients. They’ll probably have requirements in terms of postcode. I switched last year and the process was straightforward. All the best
It’s very easy to change surgery, we went in to the surgery we wanted to move to and asked, we were given an information pack for the new place which we filled in and took back and that was it. I was told by the new place that my former surgery would cover my repeat prescription for something like forty days - while the paper work went through but I got a panicked phone call from my pharmacy to say the former place had rejected it! I told the pharmacy where I’d gone and the new surgery did it for them.
If you go to this link
nhs.uk/service-search/find-...
enter your postcode and it will give you info on which surgeries in your area are accepting new patients.
Sometimes its worth persevering with the practice you are currently with if theres another doctor you could see there. You could make a complaint to the practice manager and find out what has gone wrong and help them learn from their mistakes.
Hello Jaydee 1507. My daughter is making a complaint to the practice manager. Will it be easier for me to stay at the practice. I have Autism and ADHD and this is driving my crippling anxiety through the roof. I am also thinking of seeing a private endocrinologist. What do you think of that. I am almost bedridden and can’t eat anything but carbohydrates and I have never felt so unwell in all my life. I have gone up from 25 mcg of levothyroxine to 37.5 and have really blurry vision. I am really worried about my blood as it could be cancer and if I hadn’t mentioned the referral it wouldn’t have been done. I have also had a large abscess in my groin and the antibiotics made me violently sick. My recent blood tests came back nearly all abnormal.
Its definitely easier if you can stay at the same practice. People who keep changing practice are not looked on favourably by GP's, so if you can find a way to work around it with a complaint and seeing a different GP at the same practice that is sometimes a better solution. Obviously depends how you feel about it all though.
Perhaps you could start a new post with your latest blood results if they contain vitamin results inparticular and see if there's anything there that can be improved by supplementing.
Seeing a private Endo may make you feel like you're doing something positive, but you would have to pick which one you see very carefully and be sure they have a good bedside manner. Also, treatment for hypothyroidism is just a very slow and laborious thing and seeing a different doctor who really cannot make anything go faster won't really help much at this stage.
If you have Hashimoto's then a strictly gluten free diet would come highly recommended as something to try and help.
I have been with this practice for decades. I think it is an administrative error. I don’t want to spend a lot of money privately and it be a waste of time. The doctor didn’t test vitamin levels. They were done in January and they only do them every six months. I have been gluten dairy and soya free since 2013.
I assume you posted those vitamin results here at the time and are now supplementing?
I am not supplementing as the supplements make very unwell. It is a real problem. I don’t know what to do about it.
What supplements have you tried?
I have tried BetterYou Vitamin D1000 spray and Garden of Life B -12 Spray.
Some people don't do well with methyl B vitamins due to genetics. This B complex contains a different type of B's that might suit you better. healthpharm.co.uk/products/...
As far as vit D goes there are so many different products available. Low magnesium can prevent you tolerating vitamin D supplements so perhaps try some magnesium first?
Morning. I don’t know if my message was sent. Can you please tell me what magnesium to take. Many Thanks
There are a few different forms of magnesium with different properties. You have to take it 4 hours away from Levo to prevent absorption problems. Personally I use a magnesium 'oil' spray on my skin as this avoids the absorption issues. It's really just magnesium flakes disolved in water.
To add to your magnesium levels you can also take epsom salt or magnesium flake baths which are very soothing and calming.
Sounds like you have quite enough to deal with at the moment. Leave changing to a new practice when things are not so difficult. You understand it’s frailties and you and yours can keep an eye on what is happening. A new practice will be a completely new learning experience. “Better the devil you know ….”.
Hi arTistapple. Thanks for replying. I think you are right. I am so angry that they didn’t refer me as it could be something serious where time is important. The haematology have a long wait time which starts now and should have been done three months ago. I have ADHD which means great impulsivity but I know you are right. Changing doctors would be a terrible change for my Autism and ADHD. Thank you for your kind reply.
