How to Afford Armour Guard

weewillywinkie profile image
6 Replies

After several years of feeling unwell I eventually obtained a supply of Armourguard via a NHS / private endocrinologist at a cost of about £200 every fifty days.

The effect has been astonishing and I feel alive again

However, the increase in the cost of living means this is becoming more and more difficult to afford and I fear for the future.

Can anyone offer any advice as to how I might obtain my medication on the NHS or reduce these costs in any way please?

Thank you so much

NDT is an unlicenced medication in the UK and although you can try to get it on the NHS on a named patient basis you are unlikely to succeed.

Did you ever try a T4/T3 combination as that is what a few people are doing as a cost saving measure and works out much cheaper with T3 being only 50-60p per 20mcg tablet.

weewillywinkie, I assume you mean Armour Desiccated Thyroid (there's no 'guard' in the name).

What dose do you take? One way to reduce costs (assuming you cannot get it prescribed through NHS), is to get higher dose tablets and split them. e.g. if you take one grain, buy two grain tabs and cut in half.

DO you cut your Armour in half.

I've never been able to take any thyroid meds in just one daily dose, so I always split tablets, even with levo.

Erfa is 80p per 1 grain tablet. Could you consider switching brand?
