I been taking 50mg of thyroxine my levels are normal and I've asked my gp if I can reduce to 25mg. She said yes so started today for 4 weeks I think my levels only raised due to being unwell but since starting hrt I'm doing ok other than heartburn/ indigestion. Has anyone come off completely yet thanks 🤗

Underactive thyroid
Do you have your latest blood results? It's unusual to be treated when you don't have a hypothyroidism.
What makes you think you need less Levo?
Because my gp told me
You said you asked your GP if you could. The head aches may well have been due to not enough Levo. Only time will tell. Unusual to have a TSH of 11+ and not be hypothyroid. If you could post your results we might be able to understand more. Ask GP receptionist for a printed copy of your results.
I tried to come off levo. I felt great for 3 months. Then I became very ill and realised that I needed those hormones.Be careful and monitor your thyroid hormone levels and symptoms.
Hi thanks for your reply. The reason I was put on meds was due to being subclinical this all happened after car accident. My levels seem to rise to 11.9 in Oct down to 8.42 in Dec so came down pretty quick. My gp said I can reduce to 25mg due to terrible headaches I honestly think the menopause had caused my levels to raise I'm now on hrt
Can you post recent thyroid labs please?"Normal" usually just means within ref range....it's the actual point within the range that is important.
You are legally entitled to request results from your surgery.
50mcg is only a starter dose unless the patient is frail...then maybe 25mcg.
Thyroid medication.is generally for life (hence the free prescriptions!) unless you have been wrongly diagnosed as hypothyroid in the first place..
which doesn't appear to be the case
The car accident may have affected your pituitary gland since whiplash was involved... causing unusual TSH labs. I had dreadful problems after a rear end shunt many years ago.....long before diagnosed as hypo
An old post..

Since you have Hashi's are you gluten free?
HRT/estrogen can also reduce the effect of levo
I suggest you need to very carefully monitor your thyroid levels and be very careful about reducing your dose until you have joined up all the dots.
Just a few thoughts
Take care
Hi Trixcey
DippyDame , Jaydee1507 and Lalatoot are right, if you want lived experience advice you really need to post your results with ranges.
And despite what doctors tell us there is no such thing as normal. They wrongly use the term to describe being in range.
Also having Hashimoto's does not preclude someone also acquiring central hypothyroidism from damage to the pituitary for instance in a car accident. It is possible to have both. This does't affect treatment, but it does affect your blood tests and TSH so doctors get confused as they are pretty much drilled in autoimmune only, TSH only and then lacking a lot of underpinning knowledge through inadequate training.
TSH is not the most important measure your actual thyroid hormones are. 😉
Come back with results. If you have older ones that is useful too just make sure they are dated.🤗
