Gout diagnosis
I don't know anything about gout, and have no idea how quickly an improvement would be expected with colchicine or how reliable it is as a treatment. But I couldn't help noticing what the first paragraph on wikipedia said about colchicine :
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colch...
Colchicine is a medication used to treat gout[1][2] and Behçet's disease.[3] In gout, it is less preferred to NSAIDs or steroids.
You need to get some accurate thyroid tests done with last levo 24hrs before test and last T3 8-12hrs before blood draw. All the time your thyroid numbers are off I wouldn;t trust any diagnosis tbh.
And always worth trying gluten free/dairy free
But get thyroid and vitamin levels optimal FIRST
Allopurinol helps me. I had such high amounts of uric acid that I got tophae (white blisters) on tne end finger joints. Within a day or so I was fine very quickly after taking allopurinol
Like Jaydee1507 I no longer trust diagnosis by Medics. I got a diagnosis of Bursa in my hip (excruciating walking and remains so) about a year before thyroid diagnosis. I spent a fortune on physio which always helped - briefly. It’s big business on the internet. I would not take allopurinol without being pretty sure gout is what the problem actually is. I know I am now overly suspicious BUT my muscles are a huge part of my thyroid picture. The muscles both spasm and are weak. It’s a most unusual combination. Stiffness and looseness combined. Sometimes my knees feel like they will give way in a side to side motion. Sometimes the knees won’t allow me to sit down because they just won’t bend enough. It’s as if there is a lot of swelling behind the knee and I literally have to throw myself down, otherwise something will get very badly damaged. The muscles just can’t support normal movement etc etc. Honestly this stuff is not mentioned enough in the literature I have found - but it is there. I have no idea how common it is in hypothyroidism but it’s worth looking at. I don’t see even on the forum, people complaining so much about muscle issues. Before diagnosis of hypothyroidism, I worked out it was like ‘fibromyalgia’ but I knew if it was there would be no help from the medics. It’s a ‘catch all’ diagnosis that means nothing (in my opinion). How do the knees really feel?
I have hypothyroidism and psoriatic arthritis with longtime ankle and knee problems. A test you could ask for is for HLA B27. Strongly associated with all sorts of autoimmune problems. My knee problems have gotten worse since menopause (same age as you). Am doing small amount of hormone replacement therapy and noticed multiple times that Armour/natural thyroid helpful with joints. I split dose between T4 and Armour but that's just me, may have to change since in uk now. Because diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis I have tried biologics with rheumatologist and have found one that works. Gluten free also helpful especially with psoriasis . Everything takes time and you have to be persistent about your particular case too. I've had to weigh up risks vs benefits of various treatments but knees very important longterm.
I also have psoriatic arthritis that came in after my thyroidectomy 7 years ago … I’m living in a never ending nightmare … Im on Otezla and Cosentyx because Im so riddled with PSA. 😩
I basically feel I'm walking on raw bones and it's awful its there all the time alately..and can't stand still properly either..I can't properly explain how they feel but it's soul destroying at times..even Naproxen had no effect.
