tense, hypersensitive struggling to relax

Hi all,

Happy New Year, I hope you all had a good festive season.

I find the woosh from starting T3 has stopped and I am now taking T3 3 times a day (12.5mcg in total) and 100mcg Levo.

since Tuesday I find I struggle with anxiety in the evening, I had a massive panic attack Tuesday evening and anxiety yesterday. Today the anxiety has been less but I do feel tense, hyper sensitive to noise and the feeling of bit being able to relax. It’s definitely evenings where I struggle most.

Anyone have an idea what might be causing this? I am 5 days from my period.

Getting new bloods done next week, it’s about 6 weeks since last test.

Sounds like you're undermedicated. Anxiety is a hypo symptom, also I used to get terrible pre menstrual symptoms when hypo.

Have you added folate or a B complex to your supplements? I think your folate was very low not long ago.

Hey Jaydee,

Yes I have B12 mouth spray and also Calm Eeze mega mag in the evenings.

I’m looking forward to seeing my new results and hoping if I increase t3 the symptoms resolve.

Unfortunately neither of those will help you with folate deficiency which is what the result you posted here shows. You really need a good active or methyl type B complex to keep all the B's in balance, may also need to add a separate methylfolate as you are deficient currently.

thank you. The mega mag has B1, B2, Niacin, B5, B6 in and the spray is Methyl B12 which I think includes folate?

Methyl B12 is just that, I don't know of any B12 sprays that include folate. You really need a separate methyl folate such as Jarrows 400mcgs as SlowDragon suggests. You're aiming to get your folate level up to about 20. You will likely need to continue taking that even once you're nubers are better as stopping it will just mean your continue to drop.

thank you Jaydee, I will definitely get some

Is the b12 spray new to your regimen? Or methylcobalamin in general?

Asking because for some people methylcobalamin can cause those specific symptoms. There are a few of us on the PAS section who can not tolerate that form of b12.

Hope you get to the bottom of it. All the best.

I’ve been taking it for a few weeks now

And these symptoms are brand new?

This week the anxiety has been really bad - up until this week it was mild. But since I have changed from 200 Levo and 2 x NDT I feel awful with anxiety and random episodes of hungover feeling (without any booze)

Hope it dissipates with the change you have made.

Hey missy

Curious to know which form of b12 you take and what brand?? Hope you're doing well with the Ontario weather we've been experiencing

Cyanocobalamin injections - Sandoz. My doctor's office uses Sandoz as well. And I have bought Sterimax (cyanocobalamin) on occasion.

I have tried methylcobalamin (felt awful as described) & hydroxocobalamin injections (can not afford over time) in the past.

Doing okay!

You really need to improve your folate

Don’t start vitamin B complex as about to do blood test

Just add daily methyl folate

Eg Jarrow 400mcg

uk.iherb.com/pr/jarrow-form...

After blood test done then can look at starting on a good quality vitamin B complex

I did a blood test in Dec as I I creas T3 slightly and T4 not realising you can’t do these together and my emotions where all over the place and terrible anxiety. The folate had improved

Dec results

Hi, your Dec results show that you are over medicating on T4 which can make you feel crappy, didn't see what dose you are on but a little reduction would likely help 🤗

Thyroid_mum profile image
Thyroid_mum in reply to TiggerMe

I increased too quickly from 100 T4 and 12.5 T3 to 150 T4 and 15 T3. As soon as the anxiety started and posting here and being advised it was too quickly, I rolled back. I haven’t amended anything since and my new bloods will be six weeks between.

Ah, you might just have to sit it out then I'm afraid, it's a slow old game messing with T4 😕

SlowDragon profile image

That was massive dose increase in levothyroxine

No wonder

Only adjust by maximum of 25mcg …and often 12.5mcg is plenty

So how long were you on 150mcg levothyroxine

Have you reduced and by how much

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking

Thyroid_mum profile image
Thyroid_mum in reply to SlowDragon

I was on it for 1 week before the anxiety started and rolled back to 100mcg. I have been on that dose since early December.

I haven't made any further changes to my meds and am waiting for the 6th week to redo bloods and then reassess

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Thyroid_mum

have made so many dramatic changes recently I would, if possible wait at least 8 weeks before retesting

if you’ve recently increased your meditation you could now be over medicated. Over medication can give feelings of being unsettled. I feel overly sensitive to noise when I’m over meditated amongst other feelings. I try to keep my TSH just within range. I take 5mcg liothyronine T3 twice a day. I also split my levo dose of 68mcg a day to 34 + 34. When you get your bloods done you’ll know if you’re over medicated or not. TSH suppressed indicates you are taking too much. But if you have your bloods done without ingesting your medication the T4 and T3 levels might not be over range. If you take your medication then get the blood draw it could show which thyroxine is over T3 or T4 or maybe both. That’s the only way to find out really for over medication.

Oh that's interesting, I've only ever tested without having my meds on the morning of the test.

Get a separate folate supplement and start taking while waiting

Thyroid_mum profile image
Thyroid_mum in reply to SlowDragon

I have ordered this through iherb on the link provided. Thank you for the help. Does Ashwaghanda help with anxiety?

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Thyroid_mum

in my view best avoided

You’re going to have to wait for levels to settle

If feeling wired or hyper just a small amount of gentle exercise

Adding folate should help

I too think your symptoms sound like over medication. Whenever I've been over the first thing I notice is the anxiety! Panic type attacks too. Also agree about getting folate sorted as if you're to find a balance you need that right too... Hope things calm down , those hyper panicky feelings are horrible!

Feeling tense ,mentally and physically (in my case ~calf muscles /bladder)

Hyper sensitive/ reactive to noise .

Feeling panicky/worrying , instead of calm.

~Sounds exactly like me when i was overmedicated with Levo . In my experience these took quite a few weeks to gradually improve , even after dose was lowered. (apart from the bladder which relaxed within only ?2/3 weeks)
