I did a test which indicated I was deficient in Vit.d. I take 1000 a day . What should I do to increase it, I could not find my thyroid consultant's letter advising me before. Thanks

previous post discussing vitamin D

You need to know how low vitamin D is now

Supplement at least for 3-4 months then retest

Likely to need at least 3000iu daily…..sometimes higher dose

But everyone is different

Important to test vitamin D twice year when supplementing

Aiming for vitamin D at least around 80nmol minimum

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking

If vitamins are low it suggests thyroid levels might not be high enough to

You might want to check out a recent post that I wrote about Vit D and supplementing and you can work out how much D3 you need to take to reach the level recommended by the Vit D Council, Vit D Society and Grassroots Health.

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

and you can check out the link to how to work out the dose you need to increase your current level to the recommended level.

If your current level's unit of measurement is nmol/L you'll need to convert it to ng/ml by dividing by 2.5

On the Vit D Council's website

web.archive.org/web/2019070...

find the table which shows your current level in the heading, eg "My level is 20-30ng/ml" then look at the amount needed to reach 50ng/ml.

The Vit D Council, the Vit D Society and Grassroots Health all recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L (40-60ng/ml), with a recent blog post on Grassroots Health mentioning a study which recommends over 125nmol/L (50ng/ml).

Supplement at the suggested dose for 3 months then retest.

You also need D3's important cofactors - magnesium and Vit K2-MK7, do you already take these?
