Levothyroxine Manufacturers

I have been taking 100g levothyroxine, manufactured by Almus Pharmaceuticals, but now my prescription has been upped to 125 mg. However the 25 mgs pills are by a different manufacturer - Mercury Pharmaceuticals. As it is an NHS prescription I have no say on what is prescribed. Is it best practice to be given levo by two different manufacturers?

Almus is an own-label supplier branding. It is actually manufactured by Accord. :-)

But there are few makes which supply even 25, 50 and 100 microgram dosages (let alone any others). See the UK levothyroxine matrix attached.

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

I have created, and try to maintain, a document containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world. It is sectioned by UK - rest of the world, and by T4, T3, desiccated thyroid, etc.

And do keep up to date. I edit it frequently - sometimes trivially, sometimes extensively. If your copy is more than a few weeks old, please download it again. (You must download - not just view in a browser - for the Table of Contents to work.)

You may or may not be fine with two different brands. Generally advised here is to stick to the brand you know suits you if possible.

If you're not happy with a different brand 25mcg tablet then you could ask for Almus (or Accord) 50mcg and cut them in half or alternate 100/150 to average 125mcg daily.

Accord don’t make 25mcg tablets

Accord boxed as Almus via Boots or Northstar via Lloyds

So Mercury Pharma or Eltroxin (both by Advanz) or Wockhardt likely best alternatives

If you find it causes issues request 50mcg tablets on prescription and cut in half to get 25mcg
