I had the "full thyroid " screen by the doctors who assured me they were checking T3 as well as everything else suggested previously. They didn't:( However they did check my antibodies which are normal so no graves or hashimotos. TSH was still at 31 and ultrasound booked for this Sunday (couldn't use my private medical as its linked to a pre-exsisting condition apparently)

Just got to see what the ultrasound says, do you get the results at the time or afterwards?

Do you have a print out of the antibody tests your GP conducted and the ranges (as laboratories vary)?

Just picking up from your last post, did you say you were experiencing early peri menopause?

I haven’t had an ultrasound, so can’t advise on timings, but I’m sure others with first hand experience will be along soon.

There’s two different thyroid antibodies to test for autoimmune hypothyroid thyroid disease

However NHS only tests TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative so will need to test FULL THYROID and antibodies privately

significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG thyroid antibodies

Also have you had vitamin D, folate, B12 or iron and ferritin levels tested

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am

(and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test )

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning.

Watch out for postal strikes, probably want to pay for guaranteed 24 hours delivery

Antibody tests are useful in diagnosing Graves and Hashimotos:

Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism) needs to be confirmed via positive TRab or TSI:

 TRab TSH receptor antibodies

TSI Thyroid-Stimulating Immunoglobulin

TPO & TG antibodies may be Graves or Hashimotos.

TPOab Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies

TGab Thyroglobulin antibodies

I had an ultrasound recently, the Dr doing it didn’t share much, only that more needs investigation. She really didn’t want to discuss it with me, despite me asking lots of questions. Said she’d write the report same day and forward to GP, I followed up following week as heard nothing. GP surgery said no report. Rang X-ray blamed GP surgery first then apologised and said would chase report. Rang again following day, confirmed report had gone to GP. Rang GP Sugery, yes received, GP to comment in due course. Another week and GP finally got back to me with plans for CT scan, to look at 2 cysts, ENT referral and to arrange PTH blood test to rule out parathyroid involvement. Backlog of appointments means blood test booked for 22nd Nov.

In parallel to this I also requested a copy of the report from the ultrasound. Had to fill something in online, and then take picture ID and proof of address in. Then wait for it to be emailed…..

I hope yours goes smoothly 🦋💚🦋
