Hi can I ask which brand of levothyroxine 50mg people respond to best.I have been on Mercury for 5 years and now told by pharmacie(s) it is no longer available. I am now taking accord, but it doesn't seem to be suiting me as much as mercury did. Mercury 25mg are available at Boots. I am waiting for my gp when my next prescription due to swap me to 2x25mgs instead of one 50mg tablet of mercury. I just wondered which brand people find best thankyou

Many people find different brands are not interchangeable

Mercury Pharma is widely available.

Might be listed on pharmacies data base as Advanz rather than as Mercury Pharma

Eltroxin is also identical

Try asking small independent pharmacies, often more helpful

If still can’t find try Mercury Pharma customer care phone number

No pharmacies in Scotland have MP not even small independent ones.

Guiding Treatment with Thyroxine:

In the majority of patients 50-100 μg thyroxine can be used as the starting dose. Alterations in dose are achieved by using 25-50 μg increments and adequacy of the new dose can be confirmed by repeat measurement of TSH after 2-3 months.

The majority of patients will be clinically euthyroid with a ‘normal’ TSH and having thyroxine replacement in the range 75-150 μg/day (1.6ug/Kg on average).

The recommended approach is to titrate thyroxine therapy against the TSH concentration whilst assessing clinical well-being. The target is a serum TSH within the reference range.

……The primary target of thyroxine replacement therapy is to make the patient feel well and to achieve a serum TSH that is within the reference range. The corresponding FT4 will be within or slightly above its reference range.

The minimum period to achieve stable concentrations after a change in dose of thyroxine is two months and thyroid function tests should not normally be requested before this period has elapsed.

What are your most recent thyroid and vitamin results

TSH, Ft4 and ft3 plus vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

morning to you. I am on 50mcg, normally have Accord, get on well with it. However last prescription I was given MP (about a week ago). I have had it before so was happy with it, anything as long as it’s not Teva! Keep well x
