Hello.

Has anyone used medichecks for thyroid tests?

Just wondering how reliable they are.

always use medichecks, send it back next day delivery from a priority post box. Costs more but gives me piece of mind.

Many members use Medichecks and find them comparable to other private testing companies. They are, of course, middle men as are the others but they often use the same labs to process the tests. The exception is MonitorMyHealth which is an NHS lab at Exeter hospital but they only do the basic thyroid test - TSH, FT4 and FT3 - whereas the others have the choice of more comprehensive thyroid testing including antibodies and key vitamins depending on which test bundle you choose.

only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning ….ideally just before 9am

Watch out for postal strikes

If taking any supplements that contain biotin stop these a week before test

yes, I did a full thyroid panel recently which included vitamins and antibodies and it took a few days to come back I was given a full report with guidelines. I had a 20% discount code so it cost about £69, I understand some companies may be cheaper though but I was happy with the service.

Use them regularly. Find them very good and once signed in, it also shows graph of any previous results so easy to track levels.

I use them approx twice a year and they are reliable. On another forum I have seen some recommend Monitor My Health which is just for T3, T4 and TSH for the cost of £29, but these can be tested on the NHS.

Rarely. Many members only get TSH tested on the NHS, some manage to get TSH and FT4 and it's rare to get FT3 tested as standard, it's usually the lab who decides if FT3 is tested regardless of whether a doctor has requested it.

I use medichecks for annual bloods. It’s an efficient service but there is one hitch I have. The ferritin check carried out with the advanced Thyroid package isn’t at all reliable. My results always come through where the levels are absolutely through’ the roof! I then have the hassle of trying to get a GP appointment to have a ferritin recheck. Then I have to wait up to a week to get the bloods taken by the nurse. Then again have to wait another week before seeing the GP for the results. Fortunately they are always absolutely normal when the GP practice do them.

I’ve tried to sort the problem out with Medichecks via email but they won’t acknowledge there is a problem with their testing of ferritin. The say each day your levels could fluctuate!! But my results are always devastating high!!

I now feel I’m going to have to choose another company or just have straight forward basic T3, T4 TSH bloods taken because of their refusal to acknowledge there is a problem I’ve read on the forum of other people having the same problem with bad ferritin testing.

I've used Medichecks many times in the past. A few years ago I purchased over £250 worth of tests, when they had a discount offer. I became ill a few days later, I was on repeated antibiotics and suffering badly with depression. I lost my money because the samples must be submitted within 4 months. Unfortunately depression doesn't abide by any rules
