hi everyone. I went to my gp yesterday to ask about diet and exercise after being newly diagnosed with an overactive thyroid. He seemed quite knowledgeable about thyroid, but he said I should eat a more plant based diet. He said I could eat fish, eggs, dairy etc but that's not what I read. I am struggling to know exactly what to eat.
Breakfast is normally just a cup of coffee. Lunch is maybe some crackers with soft cheese, soup and bread roll.
Dinner consists of roast, cottage pie, mackeral on toast , chicken wrapped in bacon and cheese, salad with cheese , egg,ham ,quich, tuna, cheese omelette, jacket potato with sausages and cheese, egg on toast.
I'm type 1 diabetic so I cut down on carbs. Then after my heart attack I started to eat a fair bit of protein especially oily fish. Now I don't know what to eat.
Exercise , the gp said I can carry on with light exercise in the gym and aqua fit but no hitt like exercise until I have my first app with an endocrinologist.
Any advice please.x

If you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), treatment may be delayed until this problem is treated. This is because having an underactive thyroid can lead to an increased cholesterol level, and treating hypothyroidism may cause your cholesterol level to decrease, without the need for statins. Statins are also more likely to cause muscle damage in people with an underactive thyroid.
I've just read Barb6374 previous post and she was on Amiodarone for a few years.
A side effect of Amiodarone is that it can cause thyroid disorders. This happened to a friend of mine, he was told it was rare but not sure if that's really the case.
thank you. I asked gp about tpo and trab and he said next bloods in 3 weeks time he will test for antibodies. I have been on omeprazole and now lansoprazole for years.
my cholesterol is quite low but I'm on atorvastatin.
I'm waiting for the results of an advanced thyroid test done through medicheck.
im having a vitamin d test as part of the medicheck test. I've just had an email saying there's something wrong with my test so they are sending a new test out to me.
