Alice. It is well documented that taking an ssri of which setraline is one, can interfere with orally taken thyroid hormones and that some folks might need a slightly higher dose of levo as a result.

This is because the anti d alters the levels of serotonin. Much of your serotonin is in your gut so gut function alters. This in turn can affect your absorption of levo hence the need for a higher dose.

Dont take your levo and setraline together.

I hope the Sertraline works for you Alice 70. I know that some people who take either an SSRI (or HRT)need their thyroid medication adjusting upwards slightly . It’s best to test your thyroid levels first before making any changes, Do share any results with us so we can better advise.

Hey Alice, for me it really made me more hypo. As Lalatoot wrote the sertraline interferes with the levothyroxine. I was very tired when I was combining them. I hope you find what works for you, i think upping the levo dose will do the trick.

I came off sertraline slowly because I want to focus on getting my thyroid levels better. A slow thyroid can be the cause of mental problems so it might solve them. If my thyroid is better and I still feel anxious I will try sertraline again.

Hi, Why not try another ssri that interferes less with the thyroid eg Lexapro. Anyway, if you take levothyroxine in the morning, ssri is taken in the evening around 6- 7 pm.
