Sex hormone binding globulin elevated…I don’t know what these results mean?

Hi everybody, I have just had a female hormones test done and I haven’t a clue what these results mean. Please can you help?

Only four days before this test, I increased my Tiromel by an extra 6.25mcg per day, so the thyroid results are probably not that reliable and especially as the test was taken at 1.30pm.

I currently take Levo 125mcg. Tiromel 3 x 6.25mcg.

Does anybody have an idea what these results mean and why the ‘sex hormone binding globulin’ might be elevated?

Any help very much appreciated! Thank you so much!

I don't know anything about SHGB so looked it up. This might help

Another cause of high SHBG is due to excessive thyroid hormone replacement therapy.

This is most often seen in those who are taking T3 containing medications (T3 has a direct influence on hepatic SHBG production) like natural desiccated thyroid hormone or liothyronine/cytomel.

Thanks very much for this! I had a thyroid function test done last Tuesday and my T3 was only about 23% through range so I increased T3 just 4 days before this test. I wonder if the SHBG result could be due to the new sudden increase in T3 and it hasn’t had a chance to settle out yet…

Certainly seems possible.

Perhaps you have, or are in the situation of, one of these possibilities

Increased SHBG levels can be seen in anorexia, pregnancy, ageing, growth hormone deficiency, androgen deficiency, hyperthyroidism, liver disease, hyperprolactinaemia, active porphyria and also with oestrogens.

My SHBG is around 180. An endocrinologist told me that it helps with relative increased testosterone compared to oestradiol, mine is low. It’s a protectionary measure. I have issues with my menstrual cycle having stopped and it must have risen due to this.

Thanks very much for that! I don't have a clue when it comes to the other hormones. I'm hoping it will settle down when my body adjusts to the extra dose of T3 I added a week ago.
