From what you say your operation was only very recent? Did the Ear nose and throat (ENT) surgeon explain what to expect after your surgery?
I had a partial thyroidectomy four weeks ago and it's only these last few days when I've not felt like I'm being strangled. At first it felt like I'd been kicked in the neck but this has all settled down now. So I really feel that you need to give your body a chance to heal and this will take time.
My voice was hoarse but gradually came back still a bit squeaky but gradually improving.
How long is it till you get your stitches removed? I had itchiness around them but no actual pain from the stitches themselves. The endocrine nurse has shown me how to massage the area once I remove my steri strips.
After my surgery I took painkillers for the head and neck pain that I was experiencing. Are you able to contact the ENT clinic and ask about suitable pain relief?
Your body has gone through trauma with the surgery so you need to allow it to heal. This takes time.
Thanks for your advice ,the surgeon didn't really explain about the recovery only about what's involved in the operation. My stitches came out a week after the op,had to return to hospital to get them out. Yeah very itchy around the scar. Keep in touch x
I had one several years ago and as Hedgeree said it just takes time! My voice can still be weak and feel a bit “strangled” when I’m tired or voice is overused but on the whole my recovery took a few months for everything to settle down. Be patient and rest your throat and vocal chords as it’s likely everything is bruised and swollen just as mine was. Get well soon x
swelling from the operation can last a couple of months. This will effect your voice and be causing pain. Were you told to ice the area ? This often helps with swelling and reduces pain and discomfort.
It’s early days for you but do contact surgeon or Dr for advice if you are struggling.
