Wondering about Betadine/Povidone-Iodine solution and Thyroid

Hello all,

I am preparing for a vacation - something long overdue :-) In my preparations, I decided I needed to bring along a nasal "mist" that would essentially decontaminate my nose from any yucky stuff, viruses - covid or whatever else may be lurking. I just realized that this solution has iodine in it. The solution is diluted (0.5% Povidone-Iodine solution) and the mists are about 15ml, - with about 1/2 teaspoon per 1.5 ounces. Do I need to be concerned about this? I never really thought about iodine. I am currently on 75mcg levo with 30 mcg lio.

Thoughts? Concerns?

Thanks!

I would avoid anything containing iodine.

It's not something I'd use.

If you're worried, and I suppose Covid is uppermost in your mind, then I expect you'll take the usual precautions such as distancing and using a mask. Here in the UK we can get NasalGuard which is a gel you smear a small amount around your nostrils which acts as a barrier to trap airborne viruses, some members of the lung community use this as we lung patients are particularly vulnerable. It's made in the US so I imagine it's available for you to buy there :
