Really Need some guidance on this please.

Hi all,

I posted on here a little while ago and this is a follow on to my post.

I haven’t been on here for a while as I was stable on 125mcg T4 with 6.25mcg T3. I had a stomach virus at the end of April/ May and didn’t take the Levothyroxine or wasn’t absorbing it on the days I did take it. I started back on a low dose 75mcg T4 (no T3) and that was a month ago. I’m now feeling awful, similar to when I was first diagnosed 5 years ago.

My question is can I go back to taking 125mcg now or is this too much of a jump? I just feel so lousy with nausea and stomach problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I’m so desperate to feel better.

Thank you

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking

Do you always get same brand

Have you tested thyroid and vitamin levels since being on just 75mcg

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Ideally you would test levels now before increasing dose

Suggest you increase to 100mcg …..ideally retest in 6-8 weeks

Always test thyroid levels early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Get vitamins tested now if not tested since being unwell

Hi SlowDragon,

Thank you so much for your reply. I’m on Accord and Mercury Pharma and been fine with both of these for years.

I’m doing a test for Vitamins tomorrow as haven’t done one since being on 75mcg. Also doing thyroid in this test and will update once I have results.

I haven’t really been taking any vitamins, only Vitamin D and B12 as the others effected my stomach. I tested Vitamin D 24th June and it was 130 (range started at 140)

Last thyroid test 21 June-

TSH 6.91 (0.27-4.2)

Free T3-2.3 (3.1-6.8)

Free T4- 11 (12-22)

Many thanks SlowDragon

So after last thyroid test in June did you increase levothyroxine?

Obviously shows you were very under medicated

Vitamin D…..is that nmol (U.K. units)

Usually vitamin D is

Below 25nmol - deficient - GP will prescribe

Below 50nmol - insufficient - GP should prescribe

Above 50nmol, but below 75nmol …..GP unlikely to prescribe. Some CCG areas will prescribe

Optimal vitamin D around 100nmol -125nmol

Yes, after last test started taking 75mcg t4 as I had not taken any t4 for a couple of weeks or so so was worried about taking the 125mcg I am used to straight away. In hindsight should probably have taken more than 75mcg to start as the break wasn’t too long.

Re Vit D - yes it was 130nmol and sorry I should have put range upper limit was 140 so Vitamin D level is ok.

Thanks again for your help.
