New to T3

Hello, wondering if anyone can advise, received my first ever T3 prescribed (via Endo) on nhs! It’s a 10mg dose, I’m sure the Endo said to split tablet in two and take 2 5mg per day, just discovered they are capsules! So can I even split one? Do you take it as the same time as levo ? I’m on combined. Will the pharmacy change it to 5mg if I asked? Took me that long to get this medication that I feel I dare not complain/question it.

This is a new issue

Up until fairly recently there was only 20mcg tablets.

(Vast majority of U.K. patients get 20mcg tablets and cut into 1/4’s)

In last 2 years 5mcg and 10mcg tablets became available (at much higher price)

In last 2 months capsules have appeared…..and no you can’t split them

If endocrinologist said you need to take as 5mcg twice a day, then ideally you would be prescribed 2 x 5mcg tablets or capsules

You’ll need to raise this with pharmacy initially …..or with endocrinologist if pharmacy unhelpful

Presumably your prescription says 10mcg tablets

It’s partly a cost issue

I think I may mix it with added water and draw two same syringe's sizes to half the dosage. I had read that the 5mg tabs were more expensive than the 10mg, how weird is that. I will raise with my pharmacy. Thank you

Thank you so much for the information. Interesting to see the price difference between tablets and capsules.

Good morning, my wife just started T3 and we found the capsules were a lot cheaper.Capsules (Roma) £95 for 28 of 10mcg.

Tablets £195 for 28 of 10mcg.

It’s bonkers the various different prices. Hope your wife gets on well with her meds. I feel a bit better and it’s only day one, less brain fog!

Good grief. I pay 50p for a 20mg Thybon Henning tablet on private prescription.

Yep, thats what we are going for next time but Endo has to specify dosage and brand

Yes, they do.

Technically you could split them - cut open the capsule, half the contents, mix with a bit of jam and swallow.

What happens is that the capsule escapes, bounces around and then refuses to be split until you stab it in temper. The contents then flow all over the place and half never looks like half.

You will see bits on the floor, the surface, your fingers... and end up dabbing them and sucking your fingers.

They say dont have anything to eat or drink beforehand, but my eyes dont focus until the second cup of coffee.

Or, as SlowDragon says, go back to the pharmacy... :)

You could buy a tiny set of scales and weigh the contents. They’re no too badly priced

I use mine for all sorts

Mag powder

Acerola

My glandulars

Selenium powder

They’re well used and I k ow precisely how much I’ve taken
