Have I got mixed up

Hello Hope everyone is fine.

I was wondering if anybody could answer the following query. I was sure that the NHS website suggested for further information on hypothyroidism refer to TUK but I've just doubled checked and it's BTF. Is it total brain fog as I'm sure I have heard or read to refer doctors to advice given by TUK as suggested by NHS. Confused 😕

I’m sure I originally found Health unlocked through NHS site but does seem as obvious now.

NHS hospital like to have out BTF patient leaflets.

They do have links in such useful resources one when you read their information on levothyroxine & carbimazole.

nhs.uk/medicines/levothyrox...

nhs.uk/medicines/carbimazole/

Interestingly NHS website doesn’t include any info on liothyronine (T3) or alternative antithyroid Propylthiouracil.

It does, under "Useful Resources" on the Levothyroxine page here:

Thank you so much. I knew I'd seen it. I'd told my cousin who has just been diagnosed to refer to the information from the nhs website regarding thyroid uk to her doctor. The doctor told her that the NHS did not recommend TUK and when I looked under hypothyroidism it doesn't. Thought I was going daft. So thanks very much for your help.

You aren't daft - a few years ago the references to TUK being recommended by the NHS were very much more obvious than they are now.

At that time the BTF (British Thyroid Foundation) were telling people all they needed was Levothyroxine, and didn't even mention the existence of T3 and NDT. I vaguely remember stories of people being kicked out of their meetings for even asking questions about them.

I very rarely look at the BTF website these days, but I get the impression it isn't quite so bad as it used to be. I don't know any current opinions on the BTF from the members on this forum.

I think we just ignore BTF's as I believe few people recover their health fully when they follow their advice.

They are more likely to recover their health by Thyroiduk.org.uk. advice.
