Anyone spotted a huge benefit of giving up dairy is a real and sustainable increase in metabolic rate - you can eat much more than before without weight change. Given I gave up coffee at the same time I am not sure how much this also is a factor though.
What also has intrigued me is whether other problem foods create the same effect. I will remove gluten next on a more permanent basis.
It is perhaps the most annoying thing when you are first told you have an under active thyroid is how little you are able to eat each day.
Levo on its own did little to raise metabolic rates.

I was diagnosed around sixty years ago. I did study food and nutrition to degree level however I still spent many years attempting lots of varied eating plans/ theories. I have always known it was silly behaviour. I can honestly say that for me the only eating regime that gives me any benefit is avoiding processed foods and keeping carbs in check. Basically a well balanced diet. I have known lots of people benefit from cutting out gluten either because they are coeliac or simply feel better without it. Many with Hashimotos find symptoms ease by cutting out gluten even if they are tested and show no intolerance.
No GP I have ever seen and there have been dozens has ever even hinted at food requiring to be limited due to hypothyroidism. I have eaten everything apart from Soya. I have always understood it’s the exception to the rule of ‘any food ok in sensible quantities’.
Thanks - other family members are GF now and find good results. I imagine once it is established, you need to plan around it when eating out etc. Some form of carb restriction seems the only way to keep weight under control longer term
I was on T4 or Levi only for years. Gained weight felt tired all the time. I asked my dr. To try adding T3 liothorine. It changed my life. Got my energy back. Went on Keto diet and lost 30 lbs. Thanks to this site I argued my case to my dr. I was right. I never would have known had it not been for Grey Goose on this site. She is so knowledgeable about thyroid. Advocate for yourself because doctors know little about thyroid. Feel better.
