Thyroid levels after thyroidectomy and covid?

Hi all, had covid about 6 weeks ago.

No thyroid due to thyroidectomy 4 years ago, after having covid I am left with Zero energy- out of puff after climbing the stairs. Everything is an effort, still worn out after a good nights sleep.

At doctors later today to see if they can help.

56 and female.

Do you have any recent blood test results?

TSH, FT4 and FT3.

Sometimes only TSH is done.

What levo dose do you currently take. Any change in dose or brand?

When you test to you test early in day and delay dose until after blood draw?

Do you know what doctor plans to test?

Ideally doctor will test

TSH

FT4

FT3

Often only the TSH is tested at a annual blood check for hypothyroid but as you take T3 it’s likely the TSH is low and the aim is to keep FT4 & FT3 Nicely in upper part of range.

Do you obtain & view previous results - is full function tested?

Also important to test

folate, ferritin, B12 and Vitamin D.

It’s said if these key nutrients aren’t optimal Levo won’t work well.

- as they are needed to covert to T3.

As you take T3 that’s less of an issue but not having good levels can cause symptoms eg low ferritin can cause breathlessness.

Often they won’t agree to test everything. Especially vitamin D which is restricted.

If not there are private companies which can post out kits & you sent back a finger prick sample.

Advanced thyroid function with Medichecks a good option - would include all the markers I listed & CRP inflammation marker, it would also would test thyroid antibodies but as autoimmune is not your history it’s not necessary if you can find a cheaper option.

Depending on what GP will test you may be able to find tests to suit what you need.
