Just be consistent

They say to take it on and empty stomach. like an hour before morning coffee ...but some doctors just say to take it the same way everyday for testing purposes and some people take it at night before they go to bed. With just T3 like cytomel you can take it with food.

Is this a reply to someone's post? If so you've started a new thread.

It was a reply. I was trying to add more recent treatments to my profile and I don't know how to use this sight so it kept thinking that y was starting new topics.

OK, so if you want to reply to someone's post, you write your reply in the message box directly beneath their post and click on the blue REPLY button, then they get a notification that you have responded to their post. By making a new thread as you have done here the original member wont know that you have responded.

Just be consistent might sound fine - but is actually not as easy as it sounds.

All sorts of things get in the way. Holidays when both the time and what is consumed might change. Especially with time-zone crossing and complicated and erratic refreshment arrangements.

Illness. Changing from cow milk to vegan milk. If we go as far as breakfast - some cereals are fortified with iron which can seriously affect absorption. Others are not. So switching make of cereal can be enough to have an impact.

Whilst the reports of people not finding much difference when T3 is taken along with food, sound good, I'd really like to see a proper investigation. I don't remember ever seeing a proper assessment. Remembering it might not affect the total amount absorbed but could have a noticeable impact on the profile of absorption. That could make a difference to how the person feels.

I'm just saying if you take a thyroid med at a certain time and a certain way(with or without food). make sure you always take it at that time and that way so the test results won't be skewed. Holidays and other things come up so of course there'll be exceptions. My doctor just wants me to take my meds the same way...so since I drink coffee within a half hour of taken my meds I take a hight dose than I would take if t wanted to wait an hour to drink coffee.

The idea that T3 can be taken with food is just a theory. It's never really been put to the test. When you've read as many people's blood test results as I have, you will see that taking it with food usually does result in impaired absorption. So, given how hard it is to get hold of T3 in the first place, and secondly how it can be difficult to get an increase in dose, best to make the most of what you have and take it the same way as one should take levo, to assure maximum absorption. :)
