I have recently had blood results for TSH which have come back at 8.9. F4 was normal.
When posting test results, it's always helpful to include the reference ranges as these vary from lab to lab.
Your TSH is undoubtedly over range, it's higher than the upper limit of any TSH range we see here. This suggests hypothyroidism. However, you would need two over range TSH results to be sure because TSH can be raised in non-thyroidal illness so it's usual for a GP to do two tests 2-3 months apart to be sure. Is this your first over range TSH result? If so your GP may want to repeat the test in a few weeks.
Just saying FT4 is normal just means that it is somewhere within the range. However, where in range is important so telling us the result plus range helps us. If it's near the bottom of the range then again this suggests you're on your way to hypothyroidism.
Do you have any symptoms of hypothyroidism - there is a checklist on ThyroidUK's main website here:
I had this very thing in late 2014 with mild hyper symptoms I had 2 short suppressed TSH.. T3 normal no T4 done, unfortunately I knew nothing of these results and found them in my medical records in Nov 2020.. In late 2017 my symptoms of hyper became more noticeable and we're being to affect me I took myself off to the gp who said it was the menupause I went bk several times to see him I questioned if these symptoms could be related to my thyroid as I'd put my symptoms into the NHS sits and it came up as overactive thyroid, hell he even told me he'd done thyroid bloods and I was in normal range, 🤷♀️ he insisted until Aug 2018 it was still the menupause until sep 2018 when I saw another gp who immediately diagnosed me with hyperthyroidism ( graves) 🤦♀️.. So what results was this other gp looking at? what range was he going by? Because within 6 wks I had a diagnosis (sep 18th 2018) I don't and never will trust this in range crap but to many gps do and don't really look at the symptoms saying they could be related to something else.. In my case the menupause... Well my gp was way wrong, I lost my thyroid in 2019 😠
