Vascular dementia related to hypothyroidism.

Can anyone on here tell me whether my recent memory problems are likely to be due to my hypothyroidism or as a result of a series of mini strokes which happened over the course of few months last year and have been picked up on MRI and CT scans on my admission to hospital in January 2022. I also suffer with severe anxiety and major depression and wonder how much that's affecting my memory,I'm terrified of getting a diagnosis of vascular dementia as what little quality of life, I have now , would be gone completely and my life will be virtually over from that point on.

I can't answer your question sobs, I'm fraid, but my heart goes out to you. It's quite terrifying when you have a small stroke and it shows some minor blood issues in the brain. I had this six years ago now, and my speech was very slurred. A normal MRI didn't show anything, but a Diffusion weighted MRI showed a minor blood vessel narrowing...in the external capsule...the 'hub' of the brain, of all places. I was put onto Clopidogrel, a blood thinner, and I had my statin changed to a better one. My dear Grandmother had vascular dementia. I would urge you to try some counselling, because stress and worrying won't help matters. Talk to your GP about getting some help. God Bless, ❤️❤️🙏

Thanks for that, I worry about just about anything and everything, do that's how I am anyway. The letter I got from the neurology department says that I've had multiple mini strokes and I've read on Stroke.org that people who've had multiple strokes are 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with vascular dementia than those who've had a single stroke,so it's completely understandable why I'm so worried and I have a doctors appointment next week, so will be asking them to test me for vascular dementia but am also on clopidogrel and 80mg atorvastatin which apparently can cause dementia as it can lower cholesterol so far there is none in the brain and the brain relies on it to function properly.
