7. Cautions with other medicines
Some medicines can affect thyroid hormones, so the dose of levothyroxine may need to be changed. They include:
* oestrogens – such as in combined contraceptive pills or hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
This is because hormones like oestrogen and progesterone can bind to thyroid hormone and affect absorption. Best taken at opposite ends of the day and you may need to increase your dose of Levo, best to test after a few weeks to see if it's affected your thyroid hormone levels (FT4 and FT3 not TSH) and if necessary adjust dose.
