Physio 3 - GPs and Endos - 0

I have just been diagnosed with a frozen shoulder and had been telling my GP and endo that I thought it was related to the autoimmune hypothyroidism. They both thought that thyroid patients have a dreadful habit of associating everything that happens to them with thyroid and that it probably wasn't related. Physio says it is clearly related because a) the research backs this up and b) she sees so many hypothyroid patients with frozen shoulders.

Anyway, it's not the first time that an allied health professional has understood my hypothyroidism far better than the endocrinologist. It feels very affirming... and also a little sad. If only the physio could prescribe thyroid drugs, we may all get well!

Brilliant response; I can't wait to try it on the endo / GP next time around!

Me too, I'm sick and tired of them dismissing any connection and treating me like a hypochondriac or offering anti depressants.

Hi

Doctors are such hypocrites, they can't wait to blame everything on depression, stress, hormones or anxiety when it suits them. I have fibromyalgia and have lost track of the number of times I've had what ever ails me blamed on that.

Surprised they didn't blame Fibro for my appendicitis. Honestly didn't think my opinion of some medics could sink much lower but yet it does. I'm afraid they can't have their cake and eat it.

So many of my physical symptoms have been linked to my thyroid; carpal and tarsal tunnel being my latest ailments. Luckily I visit a supportive physio and a chiropractor who understand the links, so they are my first port of call before the GP. They look at things holistically & may suggest exercise, dietary or supplement changes, rather than handing out painkillers (or antidepressants!)

I had a painful shoulder and had two different opinions from my GP practice, plus suggestions for special exercises. Each thought it was something different and in the end, when the exercises made it much worse, I went to see a consultant privately, who diagnosed frozen shoulder. When I told him I had no thyroid he nodded wisely and said it was connected to this, because thyroid imbalance causes frozen shoulder. Would you like to print this and take it to your GP? The attitude of doctors towards thyroid matters is extraordinarily careless. It all comes down to their passion for that little white pill that solves everything. If only they would believe the patient.

Hi

Just to say I got diagnosed with frozen shoulder a few years ago, was offered surgery but declined. I was only diagnosed with hypo in 2020 but looking at my TSH results over the years they've always been on the very high side of the range.

I think my thyroid has been flagging for years and certainly many of my ailments have been hypo related when I look back.

Happy to say my shoulder eventually rectified itself without needing surgery, steroid injections in the joint can help in many cases.
