GP advised I had a problem with my Parathyroid glands and her parting sentence was " it could be a brain tumour" I was shattered, how could she say that with no proper proof.
If you might have parathyroid issue you need Vitamin D, calcium and parathyroid levels tested together
GP could/should organise this NOW
Read all about parathyroid here
Thyroid is nothing to do with parathyroid
Parathyroid glands sit inside thyroid (that’s the only connection)
Thyroid levels if hypothyroid
First step is to get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis. Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.
In U.K. medics never call it Hashimoto’s, just autoimmune thyroid disease (and they usually ignore the autoimmune aspect)
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally before 9am last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

If TPO or TG thyroid antibodies are high this is usually due to Hashimoto’s (commonly known in UK as autoimmune thyroid disease). Ord’s is autoimmune without goitre.
About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto’s. Low vitamin levels are particularly common with Hashimoto’s.

New GP mentioned that he wanted calcium levels tested,I had bloods taken last week. I think he wanted to assure me I had no brain tumour. The previous GP had mentioned having the parathyroid levels checked as I had had been recently diagnosed with diabetes and wanted a whole panel of bloods taken in conjunction with parathyroid. Thats as about as much as I'm aware of.
Yes, I had parathyroid issues 4 years ago. My pth was high but calcium normal. Turns out I had two parathyroid tumours, both benign as is the case with most of them so try not to worry.
All you need right now is vitamin D, calcium and parathyroid tested from the same blood draw. Stop any vitamin D or biotin supplements a few days before test.
