Has anyone experienced increased allergies with Hashimotos?? My wife has had it for 15 years. she had the vaccine for covid last year and now seems to be more allergic to anything from her favourite food to glasses she has worn for years and eye drops she has used for the past 3 years with no probs
Also has more muscle aches and pains, weak muscles, skin rashes and is easily tired.
I'm wondering if the vaccine may have contributed to this or if it could be, as a friend suggested some other autoimmune disease on top of Hashimotos.

Since developing hypothyroidism I became allergic to our cat (which we’d had for years), allergic to dogs, developed hay fever and become allergic to dust. I think it might be because my immune system is low (I always seem to take longer to shake off viruses), can’t think of anything to help other than increase vit D and optimise meds for thyroid. Not noticed any change following vaccine.
Thanks. She's been reading some Russian websites which claim anyone with immune probs shouldn't do the vaccine hinting at more allergies etc. I think she's mixing up reaction to the fax with basic allergies.
I'm worried she may be developing other autoimmune diseases as well as some symptoms she now has are like myasthenia or lupus. Nothing seems to help with the pains she has and even hypoallergenic glasses give her problems. We're both at wits end
Sounds to me like she might be having a reaction to the vaccine. All vaccines have side effects/reactions and they impact people in different ways. She already has a compromised immune system anyways and the vaccines have not been out long enough to determine what all the effects might be. What have her doctors said? God bless and I pray she overcomes this soon!
If it were me I would ensure that my medication is optimised. Unfortunately most GP’s seem to have a poor understanding of Hashimotos and often tell us that our levels are optimised when they are not. I found out my levels were not optimal by having an ‘advanced thyroid test’ through Medichecks. It showed me that some of the nutrients that are important for thyroid health were sub optimal which meant I could then improve their status. The test also showed me that my body was not converting Levothyroxine (T4) into T3 very well which left me unwell even though my ‘TSH reading appeared perfect. Thanks to the wonderful feedback from this forum, I have since been able to adjust my medication and I am finally well.
In order to try and prevent other autoimmune diseases, in addition to optimising nutrients and medication, I am also working on my gut health as Hashimotos, allergies and other autoimmune diseases have all been scientifically shown to be related to poor gut health. It has repeatedly been shown that poor gut health can allow things like parts of food and bacteria to pass into the blood stream which goes on to cause inflammation and drive disease. This condition is often called ‘leaky gut’. Here is a link to a video I hope will help you. youtube.com/watch?v=4_RyN5M...
Regarding vaccines, my Mum developed Rosacea after having the Shingles jab. Out of desperation she worked on her gut health. She omitted gluten, started having 'kefir' every morning (the real stuff made from grains not the shop bought stuff), and 'saccharomyces boulardii' everyday (youtube.com/watch?v=cTKJPsD.... Over the months it gradually improved and now she no longer has Rosacea. 🙂
Initially, I optimised my nutrients using the Medichecks 'advanced thyroid tests' and also increased my Levo until it was high in reference range. This process took quite a few weeks/months. Once my nutrients were optimised and my Levo/Free T4 was very high in the reference range, I discovered my conversion was still very low and so needed to add a bit of T3.
From what I now know T3 has not been offered on NHS, mostly because the sole UK company supplying it upped its prices to over £250 per pack. They've been taken to court and lost so maybe things will change.
Before Brexit, with private script you could order online from Germany. Cost us around £65 for 3 months supply. That door is now closed. So only available on NHS if prescribed by a specialist, not GP
Thanks for this. She is careful of what she eats. We believe she has a leaky gut problem. Already diagnosed with intestinal metaplasia and hiatus hernia.
Have a look into histamine intolerance, as the symptoms sound similar to this. Maybe your wife could try a low histamine diet for a few weeks and see if it makes a difference.
Our GP has raised this as a possibile cause. Trying antihistamines as a starter to see what effect they have. He has also scheduled some bllod tests and an appointment with specialist as he thinks she may well have developed some additional autoimmune probs. Of course, being NHS we will have to wait a wee while...
I am allergic to polyethylene glycol (anaphylaxis with the Moderna shot) and allergic to polysorbate (in flu shots and some Covid vaccines). It may not be hashimoto's that is to blame. I found a well-trained naturopath and did many life changes...food, chemicals, medicines and my life has improved. Polysorbate and polyethylene glycol are in so many products and each use puts my health at risk.
