The radio adaptation - series 3 - is starting to be available.
(I wish they'd just make the whole thing available, rather than the dribs and drabs that are being released.)

Good sleuthing!
First read the book very many moons ago
I've referred to The Citadel on here/ thyroid disease
Dr Toft has mentioned the influence it had on him.
Look forward to listening to this
Thank you
I knew the title but nothing about it until I got a copy and read it - maybe ten years or so ago. Really enjoyed reading it.
Somehow, listening to the radio version adds to it.
AJ Cronin -a Scot- wrote many good books.
I forgot to add that original Doctor Finlay programs have also been re-broadcast on Radio 4 Extra (Probably UK only).
None currently available, but there was a series available in January (if I recall correctly!). And bound to come back again. And again.
For anyone who doesn't know what I am going on about (who are also known as "the youth of today ... sigh" ), Wiki might help:

" Aye Janet, a ken whit ye mean."!
Being an ancient I well remember Dr Finlay's Casebook!!
Surprising note: Janet (Barbara Mullen), who played Janet, was born in Boston, USA.
Gosh I’d never have known that!
Was thyroid disorder ever in it? I can remember enjoying it, I was a small child so a lot must have gone over my head. The old doctor (was he Finlay? Or was that the young one & was the name Cruikshank in there somewhere? ) was just like my real Dr Spence. He was wonderful, he told me antibiotics revolutionised what he could do for patients. He was greatly respected and was a very compassionate man who understood the hard life many of his patients had. What a story he could have told about the changes and advances in medicine during his illustrious life time.
Yes - but only very marginally.
Better than nothing I suppose did they treat with NDT?
I'd need to check, but have to find my copy of the book first!
I meant Dr Finlay’s case book prescribing NDT 🤣🤣🤣 rather than The Citadel but the more the merrier
Not clear but this episode from 1962 diagnoses thyroid deficiency!
Have a look here for a very detailed discussion about the issue:
I have never read it and have no idea what it is about but I knew of it, so I’m looking forward to hearing part of it on the radio. I have been searching for a book with a similar title about a mature archaeology studentwho squats in a garden shed whilst doing his degree. The lecturer and a female student are the other characters in it. It was interspersed with imaginary events at different times in the past in various places in London. It was very well researched and written. But I can find no reference to it anywhere. I thought it was called citadel or the city. I read it c 1977/78…..
It is available for purchase on Audible - but appears jolly expensive!
audible.co.uk/pd/The-Citade...
Yeah I looked at those audio book sites they are pricey you’d have to listen to a lot to get your moneys worth but I can listen at work no problem. I hear they can suddenly change narrator on some of the audio sites which would be annoying! Given I find reading so hard these days - sends me to sleep - it’s a good way to still be bookish 😉 there’s more than enough to get through on BBC Sounds so I’ll stick with that for now...
