Hi I was diagnosed with Addisons back in 2020 after months of being in hostpital they finally found the cause of my ill health, but just wondering I'm luck if I get 3 weeks of good health, they've told me to up my steroids now got down on them because they're worried about my blood pressure, I'm a double transplant patient but lived a perfectly good and healthy life but this Addisons has floored me, I've gained 2stone in weight, but also when I'm having a flare up my muscles ache, sickness and nausea, I have to struggle to even get around I just feel so poorly, plus the sweats and sleepless nights, and my brain feels like there is a full of fog and headaches. How do people manage once this happens to them, I do know about the sickness rules and I follow them, has anyone struggled like myself but finally got there life back on track, I also lost my job because of my sickness.

Hi I'm sorry that you have Addison's, I'm also adrenal insufficient so am on replacement steroids, mine was due to surgery to remove a pituitary tumour but the glands never "woke up" following the surgery. It can be challenging to get the correct level of steroids & it's a bit of playing around with the dose to see what suits you. None of us are textbooks which many Endo's seem to think we are! We all vary in how much we need or at what times we need to take them. I metabolise quickly so needed to take my Hydrocortisone every 4 hours while others manage to take it in just 2 or 3 doses a day. Some people do better on Prednisolone rather than HC, at the moment I am on Plenadren which is a slow release once a day version of HC. If you are on Facebook then join the UK Addison's & AI info & support where you will get a lot of help. It's also a case of pacing, so if you do a lot one day then you may need to have a restful day then next day. I did hydrotherapy yesterday & now today I will have to take it easy as I'm tired from it, it's not easy & so few people understand what you are coping with as on the whole you look well. This brochure is good & better than info produced by the Addison's Society. adrenals.eu/wp-content/uplo...
