Anyone had dropping eyelids when hypo?
I can relate to that Angie
Did it go away for you?
It comes and goes. I know if my levels are low because those are the signs. Pain behind my eyes as well.
Many do report droopy eye lids which are worse when hypo & which improves when adequately medicated.
Have you has recent eye test as eye strain can cause migrainous headaches.
Is the pain worse when eyes are moving?
As you have Graves treated with RAI the same immune attack on thyroid can attack eye tissue & it can occur after treatment & many report it begins when levels are low. Further signs to be aware of
* Change in the appearance of the eyes (usually staring or bulging eyes)
* A feeling of grittiness in the eyes or excessive dryness in the eyes
* Watery eyes
* Intolerance of bright lights
* Swelling or feeling of fullness in upper or lower eyelids
* New bags under the eyes
* Redness of the lids and eyes
* Blurred or double vision
* Pain in or behind the eye, especially when looking up, down or sideways
* Difficulty moving the eyes
Specialist can be very poor at looking after those with eye issues.

The pain is 24/7 atm. I am changing doses but it’s just crazy painful. No pills help.
Ive had eye tests recently and they’re all okay. I do have very dry eyes, but I feel this is the case when I’m not optimal.
200mcg of daily selenium supplements. Reduces to 100mcg after 6 months. you can buy over the counter. Check the label for absorbable forms, selenium l-selenomethionine and yeast bound selenium are best, avoid selenite and selenate. Most eye health supplements contain doses near to this and many contain Lutien, co enzyme 10, but many contain elements you don’t need eg iodine.
When eyes are dry you may find warm compresses helpful, I used wheat bags (hand warmers are good size) I now have a eye mask I can microwave. Very gentle fingertip massage toward lash line.
Using preservative free eye lid wipes and drops.
I haven't suffered the level of pain that you're suffering - my problem is more straightforward dry eyes. But I've read that selenium can help the eyes.
And if you use any form of eye drops or ointments at all make sure they are 100% free of preservatives. I use Hycosan Extra during the day. When things are bad at night I use some ointment called Hylo Night which is bought online (no prescription required). It makes one's vision all blurry so it must be used immediately before bed. It really makes reading in bed impossible, by the way, if that is something you like doing, so plan to put it in after you've done your nightly reading.
Shop around for any ointments, creams or eye drops you use because they vary enormously in price.
Please go see your Gp. I recently saw a neurophysiologist about the pins and needles in my hands. He did nerve conduction studies which showed damage due to being UAT. He advised if I got dropped eyes to phone him immediately for an appointment. He didn’t say why and I was surprised by his comment but I made a note not to let it go unreported. So check it out with your GP
Happy Christmas. I had double vision dropped eye lid and pain around that eye 3 yrs ago. It lasted about 3 hrs and the pain around eye for about 3 weeks. Neuro thought either atypical optic neuritis or migraine. Hope this helps 🙏
Yeah droop for most of day and then suddenly back to normal around evening time alot of the time.
Merry Christmas! Thank you!
