Results after trying to increase Free T3. Please help!

Hi everybody!

I would be ever so grateful if you could offer me some advice as to where to go from here.

I’ve been working towards improving my Free T3. For the past 8 weeks I have;

Increased to 125mcg Levothyroxine. Increased supplements to try and optimise nutrients.

These are my latest ‘fasted’ Medichecks results. Blood drawn at 9.30am.

Considering that your nutrients are all at pretty good levels, I think it's clear that you are a poor converter of T4 to T3 and that you would benefit from the addition of T3 to your Levo.

Your GP can't initiate a trial of T3 and whether you would get an NHS endo to prescribe this is debatable, you may not even get a referral to an endo as your results are in range and even if a referral is made it could be rejected due to in range results. The alternative is, of course, to source T3 yourself like many of us do.

Thanks ever so much for your reply, SeasideSusie!

Due to already having had so little help from my GP, I had already decided that if my results appeared that I would benefit from T3, that I would try and self source it.

If anybody can PM me with any information about self sourcing T3, I would very much appreciate it!

Thanks so much!

It would be worth starting a new post with this in the title, your request may not get seen tucked away in this thread. Ask for recommendations of reliable sources of T3 to be sent to you in a private message. As is normal when members ask for a source the post will have replies turned off and members reminded to reply by PM. When you have any recommendations you are welcome to send me a PM to see if I have received any feedback on them, there are some known unscrupulous supplies. Admin don't keep a list of suppliers and they can't recommend any but we can pass on any feedback we may have received from other members.

You have Hashimoto’s and are already on strictly gluten free diet

So likely to need addition of small dose of T3 prescribed alongside (slightly reduced) dose levothyroxine

Suggest you consider getting Dio2 gene test

If you test positive can help get T3 prescribed on NHS

Roughly where in U.K. are you

Email Thyroid UK for list of recommend thyroid specialist endocrinologists who will prescribe T3

NHS and Private

I now get T3 prescribed on NHS…..after initially prescribed privately

Thanks ever so much, SlowDragon! I would like to try to self source it. I’m too worried that I will go through a battle with doctors to try and get T3 only to either be rejected or given a measly token dose. x

Personally I took the reverse approach….that as an essential daily medication it was important to secure a regular and regulated supply

Private prescription enables access to Thybon Henning 20mcg tablets at 50p per tablet

Typical dose of T3 alongside levothyroxine is

2 x 5mcg (at approx 12 hours intervals)

or

3 x 5mcg (at approx 8 hours intervals)

So private prescription is approx £7-£11 per month

Yes, I totally see where you're coming from. Please could you tell me how long does a private prescription last and would I need to pay a full endo consultation fee every couple of months as well as the cost of the Thybon?

So initial consultation….£250 typically

Consultation often via zoom or phone at moment

Follow up cheaper, often just email/zoom to discuss new test results….approx 2 months after starting T3

Typically consultation annually, once on established dose

Roughly where in U.K. are you?
