Hair loss and brittle nails

Losing hair quiet severely.. atleast 10 strands every time I put my hand through my hair..

Brushing is very traumatic now as I see a brush full no matter how gentle I am…

Scared to wash it aswell..

Ordered a blood rest kit for thyroid from Let’s Get Checked..

Doing it and sending it back on Monday

Any tips on the meantime..

I’m yet to be diagnosed with thyroid issues.. I just have a feeling it may be this..

What does this test include from Let’s get checked (and cost)

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Low iron/ferritin often linked to hair loss

Are you vegetarian or vegan?

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking…if any

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Can you cancel your order? Just seen that it's £59 for TSH, FT4 and FT3. You can get the same test for £26.10 from MonitorMyHealth (an NHS lab):

Too late for this now… the test is already here.. I’ll definitely bear ‘monitor my health’ in mind for next time I need blood work.. im doing and sending the test back on Monday

Perfect…. All good… hair growing nicely and nails too… apparently my hair loss was a side affect of having covid.. it’s very common but just not talked about .. xx
