Help 😢

Icecreamandlollies profile image

I had my 3rd baby 12 weeks ago, last week I found a lump on my neck, had a blood test and my thyroid level is 59 when it should be 2, the Dr called and said I need to start medication right away which I have done and also I've been referred to endo, and an ultrasound, i have an ultrasound end of September however yesterday I had a drs appt over the phone where I asked about my referral they asked for me to collect it however I am isolating as my child is covid positive 😢 I phoned today and asked for the details to be told by the receptionist that its been referred back to the GP and marked as urgent and I need to speak with my GP but no appointments until next week, i begged for her to get the GP is possible to call me Today as I literally cannot take the stress I'm under, I currently have a baby aswell as my older child with covid, my 5 year old son is screaming with toothache and after calling 20 dentist nearest appt is Monday so now have to call 111 for him, my head hurts im exhausted I live off redbull I know it's bad I really do and I'm fighting depression hard so I can keep moving forward, every symptom I had with this was relateable to my whole pregnancy so I'm not sure how long it's been this way, why would endo refer me back to my GP and mark urgent I have no idea and I'm stressed and just want clarification if anyone has had this feeling the lowest I've ever been and I usually the toughest person people know but I feel as though I've completely lost touch with everything and I'm just hovering over watching everything from afar.

Welcome to the forum

First thing is to get Receptionist to email you copies of your results

Sounds likely your TSH is high

But important to get printed copies of results…..see EXACTLY what has been tested

Assuming it’s TSH that is high ……GP will prescribe levothyroxine

Hopefully he has also tested

Thyroid antibodies

Vitamin D

Folate

B12

Ferritin

Common to have low vitamin levels and you may need vitamin supplements if low

Standard starter dose of levothyroxine is 50mcg

It’s important to take levothyroxine EVERYDAY and always on an empty stomach

Many people take Levothyroxine soon after waking, but it may be more convenient and perhaps more effective taken at bedtime

verywellhealth.com/best-tim...

No other medication or supplements at same as Levothyroxine, leave at least 2 hour gap.

Some like iron, calcium, magnesium, HRT, omeprazole or vitamin D should be four hours away

(Time gap doesn't apply to Vitamin D mouth spray)

Levothyroxine isn’t a “quick fix” …..it’s a replacement hormone and will take a few weeks to slowly improve symptoms

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

Typically dose will need to be increased slowly upwards in 25mcg steps 2-3 more times over coming months

Meanwhile getting vitamin levels and thyroid antibodies tested if not been done

Most hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, especially common after hormonal changes of pregnancy, or menopause

After pregnancy, it may be temporary…….it’s hard to tell. If it’s temporary it might last around a year before thyroid slowly recovers. You will still need thyroid hormones (levothyroxine)

Hello ,and welcome. Things will get better , but thyroid treatment does take a little while to work and get you right again . Hang in there , a 5 yr old with toothache must be a nightmare on top of how dreadful your thyroid issues will be making you feel.

It's not totally clear form what you've written whether you are hypothyroid or hyperthyroid

Please can you clarify which medication you have been given to take ?

is it Levothyroxine ? or something else.

What dose are you taking ?

and how many day's have you been taken it for ?

Phone the GP. They should not make you wait at all with a young baby. Tell them you are off to A+E as you feel like you are collapsing unless you can see the GP today. A+E do not like GPs who do not look after their patients, and the GPs know this and he will not want you to go to the hospital. DO NOT mention depression or that is all you will get treated for. With a TSH of 59, it is a wonder you can even move, let alone cope with the children.

The sicker you are, the less likely you are to make a fuss. They know this. Get a red bull down you, pick up that phone, make sure the little one is crying in the background and quietly and assertively DEMAND treatment. I pretend I am Mrs Thatcher in situations like this and it helps me!

Sending a hug.

Oh, and Oil of Cloves can help with toothache. The chemist will have it.
