Eating delay times with T3

Hi everyone, I am taking Thyboid Henning 20 with my T4. I am taking it 3 times a day.

Quick question, do I need to leave an hour each side before eating, like with T4 or NTD?

Thanks 🙏

I err on the side of caution, just in case absorption could be affected I leave one hour before or two hours after food, same as Levo. T3 is so difficult to get that I don't want to waste it or have to take more if absorption is affected.

You say 1 hr before OR 2 hrs after, not both?

Yes, as my first reply says.

I never said what time to take it.

Take it at a time that suits you. Some people take it all in one dose, some two doses and some 3. Some find the 2nd dose at bedtime works for them. Find what suits you.

Ok , my Doc wants me to take 3 times a day. I might just do more in the morning and more at night, good idea, thanks!

I find I can eat my moring porridge minutes after taking L-T3, it is easier to absorb than L-T4. if you take some at breakfast time and some at bedtime it will make timing easier. You would need to try it but I don't think food will have much effect provided you take it on an empty stomach so there is enough acidity to break the tablet down (having fruit juice with it will help). Avoid having coffee near thyroid tablets.

Thanks jimh111, on an empty stomach is the problem as my DR wants me to take T3 midday as well. So would that mean not eating an hour before and then an hour after! I don’t have a set day. I snack a lot and then forget during the day. It’s easy in the morning and ok at night . Midday is hard ! This is why I ask.

Midday is not a good time, 2pm to 4pm or 5 pm would give a more even distribution. However, I don't think snacking would have much effect, T3 is very easily absorbed. You can only try it and see. If there is a small absorption effect it can be factored into your dose.

I take L-T3 just before breakfast (not coffee or bran), around 4pm and at bedtime, it works well. I have coffee, biscuits at 3pm.
