Does anyone one know where we can get help with a doctor who understands Hashimotoes and mental health issues as our we are at our wits end.Psychiatrists say they don't know what to do and are leaving us and CBT are as well and now the endicrinologiists are dropping us too. This so serious but we cannot find a Doctor who can help.If anyone can help we need it now.

Hi Susanhamm,

Could you provide some more information so members can best advise?

Are your concerns about your son, who you posted about several months ago? From reading a past post, I understand that he is in his 40s, has a thyroid condition, ADHD & has suffered with mental health issues. Can you share his current thyroid levels?

I have had words with mental health again and they are back on board for the time being. His endicrinologists are really unhelpful and with such confusion in his conditions I see it is not an easy fix but we have nowhere to turn and it is very serious now.The last three tests are as follows1 grain of Armour TSH 6.48 T4 4.4 T39.72

2.2 Grains Armour TSH 0.3 T4 5.2 T3 10.4

Last Test 2 Grains armour TSH 2.96 T4 9.5 T3 4.4

Low Folate 3.3 Range 4.5 - 32.2 Ferratin 158 (Range 30-400) B12 3.56

( Range 1.91- 66.3 )

Vitamin D 69.5

Given Folic Acid 5mgs

Vitamins started July 7th

Magnesium 200mgs

Selenium 200mgs

K2 MK7 100mgs

Vitamin D spray 6000IU

B12 1000mgs

I hope i have these correct as he has told me but I am sure he will read this and put me right.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I know nothing about Armour, so can’t advice re dosage. I know I didn’t feel ‘well’ until my TSH fell under one and key vitamins were high in range. I followed advice from SeasideSusie & took a good B complex (Thorne Basic B) which really helped. For me, magnesium helps with anxiety & I take it every evening to help me relax.

Is it possible to see a different endo if you’re getting nowhere with your current specialist?

You need to add the reference ranges for the thyroid results please.

It's important to always do tests under the same conditions every time to compare them and notice any differences.

Always advised here, when having thyroid tests:

* Blood draw no later than 9am. This is because TSH is highest early morning and lowers throughout the day. If looking for a diagnosis of hypothyroidism, an increase in dose of Levo or to avoid a reduction then we need the highest possible TSH

* Nothing to eat or drink except water before the blood draw. This is because eating can lower TSH and coffee can affect TSH.

* If taking thyroid hormone replacement, last dose of Levo should be 24 hours before blood draw, if taking NDT or T3 then last dose should be 8-12 hours before blood draw. Splitting dose and adjusting timing the day before if necessary. This avoids measuring hormone levels at their peak after ingestion of hormone replacement. Take your thyroid meds after the blood draw. Taking your dose too close to the blood draw will give false high results, leaving any longer gap will give false low results.

* If you take Biotin or a B Complex containing Biotin (B7), leave this off for 7 days before any blood test. This is because if Biotin is used in the testing procedure it can give false results (most labs use biotin).

These are patient to patient tips which we don't discuss with phlebotomists or doctors.

Can you tell us if this is how the tests were done?

Have thyroid antibodies ever been checked?

B12 3.56 ( Range 1.91- 66.3 )

That's a very strange range/result for B12, never seen that before. Is this Active B12? If so where was this test done? It seems very low.

I don't know the answers to some of your questions as these are my sons results and he does not live with me I only hope he reads this himself then he can give you the answers you require. He had a terrible reaction. to Levo over four years ago and it took at least a couple of years to get a script for Armour and he has suffered all this time.If he is well enough I will ask him to get back to you but he is very bad at the moment hence why I am asking the questions.

Hi susanhamm , I've just found your posts about your son. I'm in exactly the same situation; my 40 year old son is currently being investigated for ADHD, although it's taking forever presumably due to covid &/or NHS cut backs. My son refuses to do a thyroid blood test, goodness only knows the reason, so I'm banging my head against a brick wall. I'm hypo & know that it's hereditary/genetic, so I'm convinced he's got it too. I've done loads of research and it keeps coming up that hypothyroid and ADHD have symptoms that cross over.

I saved this link .....

psychologytoday.com/gb/blog...

After doing the DIO2 gene test myself, it returned as heterogenous (dodgy thyroid gene from one parent). Apologies my brain is unable to remember the correct clinical phrases. When the requisite counsellor phoned me to give me the results of the DIO2 gene test, she mentioned that the MTHFR gene is often mutated along with a DIO2 mutated gene. I'm 99% certain I have the mutated MTHFR gene which caused me to be severely depressed & highly anxious, sometimes suicidal, along with many other symptoms. Since taking Igennus Methylated super B Complex the mental health issues have disappeared. I only take T3 (42.5 mcg a day), also vit.D+K2, magnesium & zinc . Now aged 70 I feel the best I have felt for decades.

So, the medical paper linked here is saying that a mutated MTHFR gene can give ADHD symptoms.

I've had a thought. I suggest your son does the Regenerus DIO2 gene test. It may well show up more information for you. If the DIO2 (three letters, one number) test is positive, then there is a good chance your son has the MTHFR gene mutation too. So, start with the DIO2 test, then you can do the MTHFR test.
