Blood drawn for private tests

As medichecks have had a 20% site wide sale I have decided to splurge on an Advanced Well Woman Blood Test but it requires a blood sample to be drawn rather than the usual finger prick test. Their nearest partner clinics are in Lincoln, an hour’s drive away.

Has anyone found other places to draw blood specifically round the Grimsby/Cleethorpes area? Husband has offered to have a go himself as he has been stabbed as many times as me so is a pro on the theory just never tried it in practise.

I wouldn't recommend that you let anyone take blood from you without training. I read or heard once that a common early problem for newbies taking blood is to not get into the vein at all but instead to go straight through it. The bruising would be phenomenal.

However - if you decide to go with this, check Youtube for any training videos.

I can't help with a specific place for you but this list might help - unfortunately I think fear of Covid is going to reduce the number of options you have. You might want to mention that you will have your own kit from Medichecks for taking blood. And always ask how much they charge if they agree to take blood. And also mention that you want blood taken no later than 9am if possible.

List of phlebotomy services from the Thyroid UK website :

...

Superdrug - some of them take blood - it's where I got my last blood taken from. Be aware that they will ask lots of intrusive and irrelevant questions about your health that they don't need to know just to take blood. Be prepared to be evasive.

...

GP Surgeries - it's always worth asking - you never know - but there might be some awkward questions depending on how your surgery feels about patients getting private tests.

...

NHS Hospitals - Phlebotomy departments - I've used this option a few times at my local big NHS hospital (pre-Covid). They didn't ask any questions.

...

Private hospital groups - see a list here :

Make sure they don't think you want to see a doctor as well - you only want someone to take blood for a private test, not a doctor appointment.

Look for places like private ultrasound clinics for pregnant women. Some of them do phlebotomy.

This group offers phlebotomy in my town - it's worth finding your nearest one just to ask.

Bit of a long shot - ask any local gyms if they know anywhere to get blood taken.

Thanks for the warning. I have messaged a couple of the mobile services, the nearest Superdrug clinic is an hour away, same with the two nearest ultrasound clinics. Given that we live so close to a hospital will ask a few neighbours before we make a final decision.

Thinking on what you said I have had some spectacular bruises after blood being taken by trained medical staff so maybe they have gone through the vein

I google private blood draw near me and found a beauty clinic with a trained nutritionist who can take blood samples at a cost, but they are closer and easier to make app with than my nearest medicheck partners. Might be worth a google?

Note. Not suggesting you go with any random company showing up, do research them before letting them stab you!
