Hello i have untreated hashimotos because even though I have very high antibodies my numbers are in "range' anyone else have the same situation..? also terrible muscle and joint pain!! Thank you
Muscle/joint pain: Hello i have untreated... - Thyroid UK
Muscle/joint pain
Vitbpa
Hashi's isn't treated, it's the resulting hypothyroidism that's treated. So even though you have raised antibodies, if your TSH/FT4/FT3 are in range then your thyroid is still producing adequate amounts of thyroid hormone to satisfy doctors. If you get a raised TSH (over range but not necessarily reaching 10 which is the magic number for diagnosing primary hypothyroidism in the UK), then an enlightened doctor should start you on Levothyroxine. Similarly, if your FT4 goes below range you should get a diagnosis.
As for your muscle/joint pain, this could be low Vit D. Have you had this tested? If not ask your GP, if GP wont do it then the NHS offer a fingerprick blood spot test to the general public for £29:
The Vit D Society and Grassroots Health both recommend a Vit D level of100-150nmol/L (40-60ng/ml). If your level is less than this you might want to supplement. Vit D deficiency is diagnosed when it's less than 25nmol/L is some areas, in some other areas it's when it's less than 30nmol/L.
Also need to test B12, folate and ferritin
Plus coeliac blood test too
Thank you for your reply... Vit d is perfect..I've always had low ferritin, finally given infusions..and my b12 is over 2000.. always high..I am extremely sensitive to gluten and carry the celiac gene..I don't eat gluten. The only way to test is if I go back to eating it..but I just refused. I do have chronic gastritis...I'm afraid they just aren't putting all the pieces together! Thanks again
So gluten intolerance and Hashimoto’s frequently go together (approx 80% of Hashimoto’s patients find strictly gluten free diet helps or is essential)
As you are on gluten free diet and supplement vitamin D, do you also supplement magnesium and vitamin K2
How Low is ferritin
Are you vegetarian or vegan?
Are you taking iron supplements
If so, important to get full iron panel test 2-3 times year to check iron isn’t too high. Can have high iron and low ferritin

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.
Thyroid disease is as much about optimising vitamins as thyroid hormones

High B12 .....presumably you supplement?
What about folate level?
Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

What are your TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 results
Testing as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water to get highest TSH
Hi I am convinced I have a thyroid problem but when I rang for blood test results I was told it was satisfactory.I have muscle and joint pain calf pain shoulder joint pain .
You are entitled to have a printed copy of your results, so do ask your Practice for these. ‘In range’ is vague and you can’t monitor your health properly without results. Many members test privately; I use Medichecks & thyroid tests are often discounted on Thursdays.
